Can't reset nikon D50 default settings

Ok, so I have a nikon D50, and I must have been playing around with it, because for some reason whenever I turn the flash off the shutter speed is practically slower than a turtle, making my pictures all blurry. So I kinda just want to restore the default settings on my camera so it'll stop doing that, but I don't have my manual and I don't know how to fix either problem. Help with either??

Do what Fwayne says but it sounds like its not the menu. When you dont have the flash on it takes more light which makes the shutter stay open longer to get enough light for the picture. make sure your on complete manual or on the shutter speed mode. that or get a tripod.

Shutter stays open

According to what you say, it seems that you selected B (Bulb) as shutter speed (and MANUAL mode).

First, check whether you are on MANUAL mode ("M"); then, check your shutter speed. If it's really in "bulb" mode, all you have to do is dialing the speed button down to figures that match your subject's light conditions and your other preferences involved in the exposure (ISO, lens apperture).

How do I set shutter speed to photograph without a flash

You can take the photograps at P mode while keeping the flash off. In this mode the camera will set the speed and the appature according to the available light. This may slow down the speed so make sure you keep the camera stable.

My Nikon D50 is suddenly underexposing the lower half of each photo. Does anyone know what is wrong?

Are these flash photos? If so, make sure you don't have the lens hood on. Also make sure the shutter speed is slower than the sync speed.

Otherwise, is this happening at a variety of shutter speeds? With fresh batteries?

Shutter problem

30 seconds is the maximum setting for the D50. Anything greater than this you can easily time with a watch using the 'bulb' setting.  Most SLR's are like this.

I have this problem too - Nikon have looked at the camera and said I set up a custom setting so that the focus only works when you press the AE/AF Button (!). I also had a problem with the flash not working - its looking like this is a known problem. I think I was sold a Turkey
