Dell e310 message "no dialtone" for dialup but ph co says line ok

If i need a new modem suggest an external modem with ubs connection cannot disconnect computer from gate operator

    I am sure you have tried this, but I have to ask...

    Are you sure the phone line to your comptuer is live, many times it gets loose or does not connect properly. The best way to tell is to attach a phone to that line (not outlet) and make sure you hear a dial tone.

Hyperterminal dialup connection using MagicJack connects to other modem but cant type any text


Magicjack is designed as a Voice over internet protocol (VOIP) device, not used for modem calls.

The devices will not synch.

I have s dell studio 15 laptop. i got a dell conexant rd02-d400 modem so i could use dial up with it. now i get errors that say it can't connect, but that everything os ok.. error 692 and 618 (i think)...

Connect your modem to the phone line and test the modem.

Control Panel-->>Phones and Modems. Click icon. Tab Modem. Highlight your modem, and Click Properties--->>Diagnostics. Verify that everything is OK.

Then Start --->>All Programs -->>Accessories-->> Comunications ---Hyperterminal.

Enter a name for a bogus connection, Click OK
Enter your phone number and dial it. If Phone/Modem connection is OK, you shoul hear the busy signal.
Alternative:Run the Dell diagnostics.

If Modem connection is correct you must then create a dialup connection.

Laptop Vista dialup modem - Access Limited Connectivity


  • Window update running will definitely affect your dial-up connection, but you should be able to connect faster...
  • See this article
  • Go to start>control panel>classic view>double click Network and Internet connections>click network connections>right click your connection>select properties>under General tab make sure that the device listed is your correct modem-click configure-make sure the Enable modem compression box is "unchecked"-click ok to save changes-click ok to exit.
  • Make sure you have the latest drivers available for your network adapter, consult the MS Vista Network troubleshooter available here
  • You may wish to use your Device Manager to review your hardware and address any problems that appear there.
  • Monitor processes use using task manager or process explorer to see if your ram is being taxed unduly by the running processes. (I mention this because Norton is known to be a bit heavy handed in its use of system memory, you could try an alternative AV like Avira, Kaspersky, Eset NOD32 and see how it affects connections).
  • Vista Networking
  • You might want to read through some of the posts in this forum, and see if there are any posts that answer your issue.

The modem is extremely slow-most downloads are far too slow


Dialup phone lines usually only transmit a minimum of 8 Baud. NetZero's high speed (5X) faster is done by caching pages you have already visited, not actially running internet but loading pages faster on your computer. Check your modem setting, 56k, 112K are normal speed setting to connect. Check your actual connection speed, 28.8 is probably all that you are getting on dialup.
