On the above image you can see how I solved this problem. I used the way discribed in solution #2. I first broke off the little box and then added the little copper wire contacting the piece of iron at its left. Now my camera works again.

Basicaly, only two wires need to be shortcuted (connected with wire) and it will solve the problem.
After I lost this white stich (which caused all our troubles), unscrewed (only) 6 screws, opened camera, removed white plastic box which is placed at position this picture shows. After that two metal pins (only one is shown in the picture, which were surrounded by already removed white plastic box) have to be shortcutted.

Anyway, thank for very good picture.

I had the same problem with mine for a while. Just jiggle the memory card around a bit with your finger, and close the cover again. It should then work. It's a tempramental thing though. Just keep fiddling with the memory card until it works.

I had the same problem after a little plastic trigger thing fell out of the hole above where it says push to eject. After poking around for a while I took the camera apart (remove 7 screws) which made it much easier to see, with a magnifying glass and lamp, what the problem was. A damaged wire that needed to be connected to something. Only the very end of the wire was visible, inside a small white plastic box thing. The plastic box thing eventually fell apart with my attempts to put in bits of wire of varying shapes. When it came loose I was left with a short stiff bit of wire. I took a strand of copper wire (from an old piece of electrical wire), twisted it so I had a small loop at one end, looped it over the end of the stiff bit of wire, and then curved the rest of the wire (about 3 - 4 cm long) so it was resting on a silver piece of metal just below where the white plastic box had been. Put the cover back on and the camera worked. Needless to say, it won't let me know if I've left the cover off, but then it won't work unless the cover is on, so it doesn't seem to matter. Saved about $100.

Send it back to the manufacturer. Hope it's under warranty or you can get your retailer to back you. This is a design flaw. There is a tiny plastic spear and spring that can break off in a breeze and you won't even know you did it while replacing a battery or adding a memory card. I've seen dozens of troubleshooting queries on the web just like this and I've had to send the camera back to Olympus to be fixed.

Card cover open fe 280

Hi,

You can fix it with a small piece of tape inside the unit where the memory card goes. Just look inside for a sensor or a small button, and try pressing it down yourself. If that works, then maybe a slip of tape over that spot would fool the camera into thinking the cover is closed. If this is not fixing your problem take your camera to Olympus as this problem involves some built in mechanism troubleshooting.

Thank you !!

When I turn my camera on, it says 'Battery Cover Open' even though the cover is securely closed and the battery is fully charged. Any suggestions?

Hi!
The switch that detects if battery cover is closed is broken. You can open the battery cover and look under it, you should see a small hole with a small black switch in it. If you have experience in repairs and / or soldering, you can fix it yourself - just shorten the switch. If you can't do it yourself, just give it to any local camera or mobile phone repair shop, they should be able to do it without problems.

Hope this helps!

Hi X,
There's a little piece of plastic on the battery cover, that presses a switch when you slide the cover closed. Check that manually with a tooth pick and the the battery in place. Don't smash it. I have a Olympus FE -280 and it only happens when I put the cheap Chinese battery in.
If you are in the least uncertain, call Customer Service.

My screen keep showing the Card Cover Open Error even though the cover is closed. What can i do It says "Card Over Open" when it is closed

The card door sensor is either damaged, failing or gone completely. You can take camera apart, (7 screws I think) take the back off. Sensor is at the back of camera near the battery door. If sensor is missing, you will see 2 spots on the electronics board where it was connected. Carefully melt solder so that those two points are connected. If sensor is still in place it's probably damaged. Carefully remove sensor using small snips or something like that, with out damaging anything around sensor. Then solder 2 points together. Good Luck

Error message: card cover open..yeah right

Hmmm, I'm thinkin' if there's no memory card in camera, there are NO memories, aka formerly known as photos. Unless there is some sort of an internal memory, but me thinks not. As for error message, might be because....card fell out while an image was being captured.
