Question about Televison & Video
I have a 35" Zenith tv about 10 years old. I also have Directv. The other night after watching tv all night everything went to black snow with no sound. i changed the input from ant/cabl to video 1 where i could see the picture but no sound. When i changed to s video 1 i could hear the program but the screen was black. I can see and hear the program in the pip mode but it is in a square 5 X 5 inches. what do you think?

The lighting possibly damage the tuner of the set,for now you can swap the pip with the main picture and change the channels with the vcr,you need the assitance of a service to diagnose how much damage is there but.Let us know what you find or if you nned more information.

Hi it sounds like it has had an elctric fault like a resistor failing.
The click you heard would be a internal switch that cuts off the elctric supply to the screen to stop furthe damage hapening.
It could even be something simple like a bad solder and in that case will need locating and resoldering.
How old is the telly and how often is it used.
When you switch it off leave it off for about an hour then try again if you have allready done this then it probably is a blown resistor are you sure nothing has been pressed on controll have you tried seeing if you can acess the menu screen via the remote and see if that comes up on the screen let me know ok

SOURCE: directv universal remote
ok i have a sylvania tv/vcr combo, similar problem, here's how i got the directv remote (RC23 & RC32) to operate basic t.v. functions:
-First i found the code that worked for the vcr (20000 in my case).
-i programmed "AV1" to 20000, this allowed me to power the tv on/off, change the channels but not operate the volume, so...
-after plugging in the 20000 code (with the slelector switch on AV1 still):
1. Press and hold the MUTE and SELECT keys until the
green light under the TV position flashes twice, then
release both keys.
2. Using the number keys, enter 9-9-3. (The green light
will flash twice after the 3.)
3. Press select
that allowed me to operate the t.v. volume from the remote w/ the selector switch in any position, the only thing is i have to switch to AV1 in order to power off the T.v.
hope this helps in your case
