Your reasoning about the switch mode power supply being damaged is probably right.
Bear in mind that this power supply may not be the only thing that may be damaged in your computer.
You won't know for sure until you borrow a power supply and install it into your computer to see if it will work again.

Power supply unit gets power as light on the back shows but pc wont turn on. Have tried differnt PSU and pc turned on but have had unit checked and they said the PSU is working fine. Cant fit standard PSU...

Try this to get it at-least back on with your PSU that fits in the case. open up your computer case, locate your power supply. With the AC cord still plugged in , unplugged the connectors to your motherboard from the PSU and wait about 10secs. Then replugged them in. This should power on your PC.
Also, You wanna check around where the PSU connects to the motherboard and make sure there is no damage. No burning,Discoloration anything that could be potential damage.
Hope this works atleast to get the PC booting up.

My computer will not turn on

many, not all, psu's will internally tripo after this happens. how to reset:
1 if it has an on/off button turn off for 1 min and turn on.
2 if it has no button but has a 110/220 switch, unplug it then switch to 220 then back to 110 (also this may be 115/230 or even 120/240)
3 if it has neither of these, unplug it for 10 mins, then replug it and start up.
also when you opened the case did you smell anything funny? if so i would say that the mobo and/or cpu are done for. i doubt this tho because you had them on a surge, but it is possible.
1 more thing when you opened the case did you by chance knock a wire loose from the mobo?(motherboard)
after re reading your post i question whether the surge strip is good, because you said it was tripped and yet you had the posu light on. or did you mean a light inside the case of the computer itself?
if none of these suggestions help you please re post with answers to the questions i asked thanx and hope i have helped.

Protection light blinks and beeping

it has been through an overload (hence the protection light) and needs its breaker to be reset (look for a poped out button and push it back in) or it needs a new fuse (replace ONLY WITH THE EXACT SAME MODEL OF FUSE or it will either blow too early or too late (or not at all) when there is a surge.

Pc tower gets very hot, and is starting to frezze during work ,

If this unit is enough to feel it, then your fan(s) are not working. The power supply may need to be replaced but along with it the CPU fan and case exit fan(s).

Pc wont turn on

1. Remove all USB devices such as printers, mp3 players etc etc.
2. Remove the power-cable and the battery
3. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds
4. Put the power-cable back in but not the battery and none the USB devices.
5. Turn the computer on

Also check the condition of the USB ports if it doesnt work and the fuse. If this doesnt work then I would recommend a repair.

Flashing Green Light on Power BESTEC Power Supply

This is an easy fix so here you go nice and simple:

Problem: Your motherboard circuit has been cut.

Causes: Power disconnected during operation. Power outage or short in the surge protector.

Symptoms: Flashing green light on both motherboard and power supply. System will not power on.

Solution:

Step 1: Ensure that both the power supply and the motherboard lights are flashing green, not solid or off.
Step 2: While the power is on, disconnect the power supply from the motherboard. This connection is the largest of the connections and should be listed as the 'P1' or 'Primary' power connection.

Step 3: Wait until the green light on the motherboard stops flashing and check to ensure that the green light on the power supply is now solid. If it is not solid, disconnect the power to the power supply and wait until the light turns off completely. Then reconnect, it should be solid now.

Step 4: While the power is on, reconnect the P1 connection to the motherboard and you should now see that the light on the motherboard is solid.

Step 5: Power on your PC. The problem should not persist.

Warnings: If the power supply light remains flashing after you have restored power to it while it is disconnected from the motherboard, it may be a system failure in the power supply itself requiring replacement. Always be careful when working with an active or live power machine.

I hope this helped! Good luck!

Computer wont turn on

So, lets say that you have double checked all cables, and everything is plugged in properly. When you hit the power switch on the case, do you hear the computer start then shut down several seconds later? Does the computer refuse to do anything but power a motherboard LED? Also, did the computer (or the person carrying the computer) bump into anything while moving it? The most minor bump can cause many problems.

I would try replacing the power supply with another one from a working PC, but just to make sure that the power supply unit is the problem. If it isn't, make sure all heatsinks are locked down appropriately and making full contact. Other than that, I don't know what you can do.

big blue flash! I would say one or more of the filter capacitors just blew up! time for a new power supply. the AC goes into the unit and a surge suppressor is across the line - looks like an orange colored disk - from there it goes to a step down transformer to a multiple output secondary. on the secondary there are numerous "bridge rectifier" circuits that take the AC and change it to usable
dc. That DC is filtered with large capacitance capacitors. I have a site if I can still find it that has large wattage power supplies. I'll find it and get back to you.
