Nancy,

How old is this battery? They do indeed wear out. The best way to tell is to put ii in the charger. If it charges up way too quickly, then the battery is shot.

My battery for canon camera 550d flashes orange when charging, its been 4 hours now and it hasnt turned green yet.. I am charging it first time.. is this normal

Okay what happens sometimes is the charger gets into a feed back loop. What to do is remove the battery unplug the charger wait a few seconds (Maybe 20/30) plug the charger back into the outlet and then put the battery back in the charger. It should start to charge again and a few minutes later go to the blinking for full charge green.

It'll happen the other way as well meaning if the battery gets a memory (they say they don't but they do) you need to unplug the battery let is sit till it's cool and put it back on charge again. I've had this problem many times and have put it on charge and back off several times with in 15 minutes before it started to charge as it should.

Also these batteries do have a life span and if it's a three year old battery with many charges it could be failing meaning it just won't take a full charge.

My camera won't switch on. I thought it needed charging but the light on the charger unit only goes from solid red to flashing red. Whilst in the charging unit, I can view the pictures on the card and it...

The batteries when too dead won't charge, it is a known problem, some take a 9V battery and hook up to the battery, separated from the camera and charger, pos to pos neg to neg for a few seconds than try on the charger again, I've done this to a few of these Exilims with good success

Camera will not power up changed battery just went dead Nikon D70

Fixing a Dead Nikon D70 - Green Blinking Light My first-generation Nikon D70, which I bought the day it was released to the market a few years back, died on me a few months ago. Without a card in it, it won't start, and when you insert a CF card in the slot, the green data-access indicator flashes on and off. If I hold down the Menu button, the menu flashes on and off along with the green LED.
d70_87x1.jpgAs it turns out, this is a known problem with the original Nikon D70 cameras, and Nikon USA has a service bulletin out on the camera body. They'll repair it free of charge.
So, if you have the same problem, visit this service bulletin page, http://nikonusa.com/Service-And-Support/Service-Advisories/D70-Service-Advisory.page click on the D70, and you can access a PDF file that you'll need to print, fill out and send to Nikon along with your camera body. Be sure to take your camera strap off and remove the battery, and don't send any lenses or other accessories.
Mine's on it's way to Nikon now - they say the turnaround is five days (plus shipping time).

Are you getting any power from it? How about an error message?

Try blowing some compressed air into the battery chamber. There might be some debri or dust in there. Try replacing the battery to see if that solves it. (Someone you know must own a D70).

R 19 error message,, i put full battery charged in and within a minute all the life is sucked out of battery,,, can only take 1 pix

In the D70 manual Page 200 there is a note about Electronically Controlled Cameras.
... unusual characters may appear on the control panel and the camera may stop functioning.
Usually caused by strong external static charge.
Possible solutions:
Turn camera off, remove and replace battery and turn on again.
If using AC adaptor, disconnect and reconnect.
If problem persists, press the RESET switch (you will need to set the date and time again after this).
RESET switch is a tiny button located on underside of camera body between the two screws near the USB port.
If this does not work a repair is required.

"for" message on LCD

It means you need to format your compact flash card.  Or...it may be that you've been bitten by the infamous BGLD problem (Blinking Green Light of Death) that caused my D70 to eventually be replaced by Nikon.  Thankfully it was under warranty at the point, which yours will not be.
If you haven't ever formatted your card, this is probably the problem.  To do so, just hold the two buttons that say "for" in red on them down for a second so that the letters "FOR" start to blink, then do it again while seeing that.  Let go and wait a couple of seconds.  The FOR will be replaced by numbers that tell you how many images you have left on the card until it is full.  I format my cards EVERY time I put a card back in the camera.  This prevents bad locations from cropping up on the card and creating bad images (corrupt).

Lens is stuck so Camera does not turn on

The battery packs in these units dont have a very long "shelf life" meaning when you charge the battery you need to use it within a few days or it will loose charge. Have you tried a fresh charged battery? They are very power hungry devices and the more advanced they get the more power they need. How old is this unit? how many charges have you put on the pack? it may be time for a second pack. An emergency backup pack good power is key nowdays.
