Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera

1 Answer

My son hit some buttons on my xt and I am on vacation now. In auto mode it will let you take one pic and that is all. You have to turn the camera off and then on to take another pic. In addition, I cannot bring the menu up at all. Nothing is previewing and nothing is working. I have removed the battery and taken it out for hours, but nothing is working. PLEASE Help!!! I am not sure what he pushed.

First, try removing and replacing the camera battery. Sometimes this will reset the settings. If that doesn't work, then you need to reset your camera by removing (and then reinserting) the small internal battery. They call this the "date/time battery" but it is also responsible for saving all your settings when you turn the camera off. This battery is located in a tray on the side of the battery compartment. Follow the instructions on page 38 in your user manual. If you don't have your user manual with you, you can download it from this page at Canon.com

Canon 350D can only take picture it does not take video. On screen of course you can play the photos you have taken. But that is all.

Canon Rebel XT I can't change aperture or shutter speed in manual mode

You may try this. Reset all in the menu setup.
What you will be doing to to reset all the settings back to factory settings. Then you will want to go through the settings and reset them the way you prefer.

Need to take an auto time delay picture, left manual at home.........

The Rebel XT (EOS-350) manual states that turning on the selftimer is done by:

  1. Pressing the icon button that looks like a stopwatch
  2. Frame up your subject
  3. Press the shutter button and then wait 10 seconds for the picture to be taken.
Notes: Do not stand in front of the camera while you press the shutter button. Tripod is the best tool to use in self timer situations.

Shutter speed on sports mode

don't get too far ahead of your self-leave camera on auto mode-put lens on a and hold button half down to let camera autofocus-learn how to use a continous mode to take multiple shots more important than playing with shutter speeds for now

Blurred night time football pictures

The standard canon 75-300 lens is not considered a "fast" lens. Because of this, when zooming in on objects you are actually reducing the amount of light hitting the image sensor. Fast lenses cost $$$$. Just google "Canon L Glass" and you will see what I'm talking about. Try opening the field of view (zooming out) to allow more light to be absorbed bu the image senor. Crop your subject later in whatever software you use. You can also use one of the manual modes and up your f-stop to make the camera more sensitive to low-light conditions (higher f-stop means higher film speed.. higher film speed is how fast the "film"... aka image sensor absorbs the light. for action photos, faster film speed is key!!). have fun experimenting.
