Question about KEF Audio KIT100 System

Open Question

No playing DVDs / buzzing / digital input / firmware updates?

I bought a UK KEF KIT 100 at end of 2004; I used the system for a year, then put it in to storage (I moved house); I've only recently re-connected the system and have some questions:

1) I can't get any DVDs (or CDs) to play; I put a DVD in, and press play but LOAD is displayed forever and the DVD never starts; I put in an audio CD and one track did start playing then stopped; the system was in a loft space which might have been dusty and I'm wondering if the player simply needs to be cleaned?

2) Is it possible to get FIRMWARE upgrades for the KIT 100? can they be downloaded or do they need to be ordered from KEF on a CD?

3) While using the analog input with stereo jacks from a mac laptop there is sometimes a buzzing sound. I have a projector and wanted to use the analog RCA (or digital) jacks on the back of the KEF to play sound from the MACs DVD player; I could use a TOS or COAX digital cable instead of the analog RCA jacks. Does anybody have experience of piping laptop audio in to the KEF? The KEF is treating the audio as Pro Logic II but I'm guessing a digital cable from PC input would be treated as Dolby Digital?

Many thanks.

SOURCE: I have some trouble with my cd player in my Kit

First clean the laser head with a Qtip and alcohol. It gotta be perfectly clean, so wipe with fresh brand name qtip and make sure there is not a single dust particle on it. You gotta remove the cabinet with star screwdriver. Your beam might be tired. First try with the clean up!

Hi, My Home Cinema Samsung HT-TXQ120 seems not playing double-layer DVDs. The 4GB DVD are played perfectly, while when I try to play 8GB DVDs, the image gets frozen very soon (less than 1 min) and never...

Hi. There is a change in focus by the laser for a dual layer DVD - the laseer has to read through a semi-transmissive layer for that extra information too.

Cleaning your laser lens with a cleaning disc kit may bring it bck to life especially if you smoke... else could be time for a new laser(s)

You have a bad set of Audio output IC's for the sub. There is two of them. TDA7293 REPLACE BOTH!!!
There is 4 on one side of board, and 2 on other "also 1 small one" The the two are for the sub,the other 4 are for the main speakers/surround. They sell on Ebay for $6-10 each or a kit of all 6 for $25. I would have all 6 replaced. It is better to run a matched set.

Kef kit 100 subwoofer buzzing

if you have still the problem, I got the solution from Kef USA. It is somewhat involved in taking the unit apart and replacing a resistor and capacitor. With the instructions supplied any electronic techician or TV repair man can do it in less then 1 hour. email me and I forward the instruction in PDF: Xxel_g@mail.coX . Replace the first X with a and last X with m in my email address.
