MiniDV cameras have two video heads on the rotating drum, which read and write the picture in broad horizontal bands. When one head is not working, normally because it is clogged by dust/dirt/tape residue, you see broad bands of noise across the image occupying exactly half the total image area.......

It wont eject or play makes lound noise for a min

There is a broken plastic part on the cassette. Needs to be replaced.

Mostly caused by improper position of the tape and camera jam(tape jam)

needs sony camera technician who can replace the part inside the cassette.

How do I set the noise reduction on my Vivitar 865HD. I have the manual, but can't get to the setting. Any help ?

I am verry sorry that you have spent so much time on this matter. I as well own a few Vivitar cameras and I have come to realize that there is no noise reduction on this model ( Vivitar DVR 865HD ) This camera is a cheap basic camera that is capable of many interesting things and alot can be done with it. Yet one of the flaws is that the microphone can not be changed, It is too sensitive close up and not sensitive enough for people in the didtance.......My advice is to experament with making video and be concious of the volume of whom or what ever you are shooting, Also on another note I belive some after effects studios can help you manage the volume in editing that may be something to check into.
Thanks for listening and if you want to see some of the things this camera can do you should check me out on I shoot exclusivley with this camera. Just search for: SuperRichard37

About the Panasonic DVX102B. Brand new. We seem to have a serious problem with unexpected jagged "digital outline noise" for example along the edges of moving icebergs, YES, the camera is actually...

make sure the gain button is in the L setting for low. Also, when shooting in 24p fast movements are going to give you this effect so you must slow your pan (side to side movement of the camera) to less than specified in the manual. In other words, slow pans. Also, these cameras do not like super cold weather. Sorry.

Panasonic AG-455 Problem

The noise is most likely bad bearings in the video head assembly. No longer available from Panasonic. The b/w recording problem is most likely caused by a bad video board inside the camera. Unfortunately, the video board is also no longer available.
