Hi, my dvd drive on my laptop stopped working yesterday out of the blue. It doesn't read disks anymore, under details it said error 39. I uninstalled it in hopes that it would automatically reinstall the driver software. It tried, but said there was an error in doing so. What do I do? This is the drive name I think HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA Device
I had this problem some time ago. I think it was a corrupted registry entry. This Microsoft Support article provides steps to delete registry entries to solve the error 39 problem (and others):
Look in the "Advanced Troubleshooting" section. The .reg file linked to the fixya.com article listed by Boogerhead looks like it attempts something similar, but instead of deleting the offending registry entries, it overwrites them. And as mentioned before, it's difficult to determine someone's level of knowledge and skill from one help post. You must be thejudge of your own ability and confidence in attempting any recommended troubleshooting steps.
You're not alone. Two other people had your problem; someone posted a suggested fix, but neither of them said if it worked. You might want to take a look here and use your judgment of whether you want to try this: http://www.fixya.com/support/t1250464-hl_dt_st_dvdram_gsa_t20n_ata_device

Flashing blue lines - My 17" mac powerbook jsut started flashing blue vertical lines across the screen. I tried to restart yet the lines still appear and I got a prompt to restart my laptop. I did restart and it still continues to have the problem. Making it unusable. I purchased this laptop about 2 years ago
