Hello,

is there any power indication? if there is then please unplug the unit from the power outlet and then open the casing and try to refix all the connection inside. If not resolve then try to test one by the parts starting from the processor, memory,VGA Card, mother board, hard drive. if found no error in its component then probably the the operating system. you have to reinstall the operating system and all diver and application program.

if it no power indication then test first the power supply before doing the suggested above solution.

Hi dallasblue08,

Here's a diagram of what your looking for:

The following eMachine models share the same motherboard (and thus the same front panel layout):

Emachine t2742 I also have a wiring problem!

gtater,
It's ironic that you ask me this question today-- i am just now carrying in another eMachine computer to fix. Anyway, unfortunately I do not have one that is the same model as yours (T2742). However, I did some quick research and found that yours has the same exact motherboard as the T2898 which I made the diagram for!

The following eMachine models share the same motherboard (and thus the same front panel layout):
T2742 T2796 T2798 T2824 T2885 D2823 T2862 T2896 T2898 T2958

For further reference, I would like to share this diagram for the eMachines T6544 in case someone else may need this model. This is the computer I just carried in... might as well share.

By the way, the power switch doesn't need to be oriented any particular way (positive and negative), which is why the switches are not labeled as + or -. Switches can be wired either way and they will work the same.

Hope this helps.

Power switch wiring

Locate your battery on the motherboard. It should be near the edge closest to the front of your machine. Look along that edge for a two or three contact header (connector with stiff gold plated wires sticking straight up). Near the header you will see in very small white writing "PWR SW". That's it. If it isn't on that edge, continue looking along the edge closest to the bottom of your machine. It i along that edge on some boards.
