If you can solder and you are comfortable working inside a set where there are potentially dangerous high voltages, yes you can fix this. The problem is likely to be either bad connections on the convergence ICs or defective ICs. If you still have the results of the previous repair, please post those here and I'll provide you with additional details and instructions.

I have a o3 jvc 56 in model number av56wp74. I have a horizontal blue line across the front of my screen. Do I need convergence kit or dlp lamp ? How much would each cost? And is it woth fixing?

The model listed is fairly easy to repair if a convergence issue.(DOES NOT USE A LAMP-HAS 3 PICTURE TUBES.

The entire front grill below the screen is held on by the two tiny screws at control door on front and more on either side at rear--with it free you can remove the grill.

Behind it is an inspection plate---the board with the metal heat sinks directly behind it up front is the convergence board.

Set uses two of the STK-392-110 CHIPS--cost of parts (chips etc) will be under 30 dollars total(Suburban Electronics is a good source)

The board will come out (if attempt this I can tell you what and how to get it out) chips each have 18 pins and are soldered in place.

Just so you know what the board looks like here is a photo of it removed from a set I fixed.

JVC AV56wp74 convergence. Resistor before ICs?

It's recommended to replace all the defective parts first because if you only replace the defective resistor, it might burnt again if the convergence IC is shorted internally. I would also suggest to measure the other low value resistors with multimeter.

Red lines all over the screen

this set(AV56wp74) was first made in 2003----if you use the remote for the set and go into the customer menu---select convergence----once there see if the red and blue will move left/right and up/down----if either color will not move in any one of these directions----you have a bad convergence IC--this set uses 2 of the STK-392-110 output ic chips---both need to be replaced and the set adjusted with the original JVC remote control. I hope this has been helpful.

1. disassemble front speaker panel.

2. locate circuit board in front with the 2 large black or silver heat sinks standing up. (this is your convergence board).

3. disconnect all the wires on this small board, but make sure you take a picture first to know where they all go.

4. look for 2 black cips that says stk ***-***.

5. order replacement chips on line.

6. learn to solder before chips get to you home.

You can try to fix it yourself by replacing the convergence board.
check this link to find the entire convergence assembly.
After replacing the assembly you might need to do a manual adjustment.
I can fix that board for you for half the price.
Good Luck and let me know if you need further assistance.
