Question about Canon Elura 90 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Is there a better (brand) tape to use with a Elura 90? I read somewhere that certain tapes had more problems than others. Thanks, Joe

One thing that can change the tape quality is making sure you are using th 60 minute recording mode vs the 90 minute EP recording mode. If you record alot, you should clean the tape heads every 6 months as well. I haven't really found any bad tapes out there (I'm sure there are some). Usually Sony and JVC are good choices to use.

I have an Elura 85 which I hope is similar. Problem is dropped pixels and some frames and most of the audio. I thought it was a bad tape, but the drops and breaks are at different places each time I read...

This is most likely caused by a damaged or misaligned video drum and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Tape will not eject

Hi, The tape sounds to have undone inside your machine, be careful if its important home video etc. Try use a blunt kitchen knife to prise it open, the camera drawers are stronger than they look, this worked for me. Thanks

I have an Elura 90. The cassette door opens but

When ejecting the tape you must hold the eject switch down for a full second. There are two stages to the eject process just as there are with the insertion of a videocassette. Hold the button in position long enough to hear the motor mechanism start.

Canon elura 90: won't load tapes

Make sure the power is on this unit and you are pluged into a good source of power. The disk tray needs power to lower. A lot of tapes get loose in there case and need to be fast forwarded and then rewound completely in order to help spool them properly in their case. And what you are experiencing sounds a lot like this. It is also possible that you need to buy a head cleaning unit for your elura and run it in the camera for 10 secs and then try again. (Did you try this with a New tape? or just used ones?) We bought a small tape rewinding unit for around 39 dollars that helps us to rewind the mini DV tapes without adding wear and tear on our camera and it seems to help with the issue of loose tapes in the camera getting rejected as they won't wrap around the tape head as nice.

BEEPING SOUND AND CODE C:31:23

I have a Sony Handycam VideoHi8 XR w/72X digital zoom and I had not used the camera for four years-we moved & I lost it...long story short...I turned it on & began reacquainting myself with it & all of the sudden it flashed the dreaded C:31:23 code. I freaked when I read the $90 fix & wasn't certain about the other fix. I opened the tape deck ejected the tape, put it back in & turned off the camera & back on. Sure enough the same error came up again. So this time I repeated everything the same, but then ejected the battery & put it back in & then went back & recorded my cat. I reversed it & viewed it & it worked! Yay! I don't know if this will work for you, but I hope it does so you won't have to trash your camera.

Error MSG when rewnding

that's my problem too. I'm going to try the solutions for the "remove tape" problem when trying to record--use dry head cleaner and the other options, check out that thread,

Elura 60 Zoom Problem

Guys, so weird but on another site it offered this suggestion: banged the base of your camera against something hard and it will become unstuck. So bang the base of your camera against something hard and it will work again, at least it works like it did but not sure for how long. Good luck. I can't believe that worked. Give it a try. I didnt hit it too hard either.

Remove The Casette Message

THESE CAMERAS ARE PEICES OF ****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I suggest that no body buys from cannon again!!
I am suppose to record my sister-in laws wedding and BOTH of my ELURA 100's are displaying the EJACT TAPE message!

"TEMP. FIX"
This takes pateince however for me it works....When you get the EJECT TAPE mesage....eject the battery with the power on (thus the power will go off by means of the battery not being in camera) then slap the battery back in....and KEEP doing this untill eventually the camera will NOT DISPLAY the message and actual work.

It may take up to 20 trys ....slap it in..slap it out...slap it in slap it out...BUt for me it works.

If it appears to work but as you hit the RECORD button it beeps and displays the EJECT tape message again...Go back and eject the battery again and repeat the STEPS...but dont worry , that means your getting closer to it working.. LOL

P.s- I hate CANON

Record button doesn't function

You may want to check the record lockout safety switch located on the tape. This button can get moved by accident and the camera will refuse to record on that tape. Also, be sure the camera is in "video" mode, not "photo" mode. Some of Canons camcorders have a digital still camera mode which stops the camcorder from functioning because the photos are being recorded to a memory card and not your tape, please check this swithc as well. Good luck. Joe Weibel customelectronics.org

E04 message

Lisa, E04 is an error code which shows that one or both of the reels has stopped during play or record operation. We find that tapes with liquid contamination can stick to internal parts in the mechanism causing this error. Try another tape, if this does not resolve the problem something is defective in the tape transport. Good Luck to you! Joe Weibel customelectronics.org
