Check the earthing of the amp is adequate. It sounds like the amp is floating without an earth until you earth the rca outer.

Jl w7 not loud enough

If your sub isn't loud enough you may want to look into a few things;

1. What type of amp you're using and its output rating
2. The gauge of your power, ground, and speaker wiring
3. The condition and type of enclosure you are using
4. Check to make sure the speaker cables don't touch, because this can cause it to ground itself out and produce little to no sound.
5. Check the RCA connections and make sure they are in order

I have a jl audio 500/1. I had the amp professionally installed. The amp played for 2 days and no it has no sound but the power will come on. what could be the problem. I have new rca jacks, 4 guage power...

Go back to where you got it installed and ask them to fix it.

If you don't want to do that I would recommend going to another good car audio shop and getting them to check it out.

You can test it yourself by hooking up an iPod to it using a Headphone to RCA cable.. test at low volume first.

Have a JL audio slash 500 that isnt putting out any audio... i know the sub is fine. but i noticed the RCA inputs are loose and dont hold the cables very tight.. is this my problem and what can i do to...

Yes it possible that the inputs have been damaged on the circuit board of the amp. If the amp has hi level inputs you could try running a speaker wire input to it and see if it works. You might try another pair of rca cables to.

Jl audio 250/1 amp

This could be due to multiple things. First I would run a test light to the speaker leads of the amp as if you were running your speaker...it should light up and blink to the sound of music coming through. If no sound then most likely your RCA cables are bad or input jackets on the amp are loose and be shorting out causing the low light to come on. If you know 100 percent that you bought that amp in good running condition then most likely its something simple like the RCA wires are bad..Hope this kind of helps you out.

Disconnect all speaker wires from the amp and disconnect the RCA cables from the amp. If it still goes into protect mode, use a multimeter to confirm that you have 12v on the B+ and remote terminals. Place the black meter probe on the ground terminal of the amp when measuring the voltage. If the voltage is sufficient and the amp goes into protect, it will have to be repaired. JL only accepts repairs from authorized dealers. You'll have to find one in your area or you'll have to find a repair shop willing to work on JL amps.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
