Wanting to connect an older AV received to my Win 10 PC via optical input. Should I use MB or Graphics output?

You should use the audio output on your computer that is labeled as "optical" or "S/PDIF" (Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format) to connect to the optical input on your AV receiver. This will typically be labeled as the "digital audio out" or "digital output" on your computer. The "graphics output" is used for video, not audio.

Connect pc

To connect your PC or Laptop to your Harman Kardon AVR 2600 you need to connect the HDMI cable output of your graphics card to one of the 4 HDMI inputs on the AVR 2600 receiver. The HDMI connector on the AVR 2600 labeled "HDMI Monitor" is on output and cannot be used as in input.

You need to select the corresponding input from the front of the AVR 2600 or using the remote. Next you need to make sure your have the HDMI output port selected on hour graphics card. This will probably not apply to your PC, but may require some settings from the function keys on your Laptop.

Note that you will probably need to also connect audio from your PC to your receiver as well. I would recommend you use HDMI cable with ver1.4 specification so that you have the best chance of getting audio over the HDMI. If you only get video, then run separate Toslink (optical) or RCA cables to get the audio to the system from the PC.

Hmm.. I doubt you will be able to help me, and if you can, it won't be free, but here's my question anyway: any idea why when I try to connect an s-video cable from my harman kardon avr 130's Video 1...

Well, use the "Monitor Out" jack on the receiver, as that is what it's designed for.
Is there a jack labeled "Video 1 Input" or only "Video 1 Output"? It could be that the Harmon Kardon folks have a weird way of labelling so that "Video 1 Output" is actually an "input" to the amp that is then fed thru the "Monitor Out" jack. It will take some experimenting on your behalf. Some units will also NOT take an input or output thru the S-Video IF you have a composite cable connected to the (yellow) composite video jack for that same point, so make sure that is disconnected if you want to use the SVideo. Also, sometimes there is a menu setup in your monitor where you have to decide between Composite video or SVideo or Component Video, so check that in some cases as well.
Let me know what you find out.

HOW DO YOU CONNECT TO THE TV

You look for the video and audio outputs available from your camera, the standard analog type are video composite (yellow RCA connector) and audio L channel (white RCA connector), R channel (red RCA connector), if the audio output is mono, you should have a black RCA connector, the you should look the corresponding inputs at your TV set and select them. If you have a digital output, usually a firewire connection, you should look for the cable and corresponding input at your TV set.

WHAT ARE THE INPUTS FROM A DVD PLAYER TO THE TELEVISION I AM NOT GETTING AUDIO FROM THE DVD PLAYER TO THE TELEVISION.

Your DVD player may have up to 3, sometimes 4 audio OUTPUTS. Labeled as "bitstream" which is a digital coaxial cable, another labeled as "optical" which is a fiber optic cable. Depending on the model there may also be as many as 2 different types of analog outputs, one is a 2 channel composite connection, or otherwise known as RCA and another is labeled as "multichannel out."
Your television will have audio inputs on the same panel your video cable is connected from the player. Connect to those from the player.

Pc connect to plasma tv pioneer pdp hd5070

Depending on your graphics card you may want to try a digital lead hdmi/dvi.

Also remember you will have to change settings for your graphics card.

If it will do dual view or clone desktop then select it but set your resolution to 800x600 just to start.
If you go too high the tv or computer may not display or say out of range

vga to tc vga has been known to be a bit of a mixed bag in terms of results but for the most part they are good esp if you use a good quality cable and not one of the many cheap ones that are about..
