Re: Dell Studio not communicating with my lexmark X5340...
Here is some info thart may address your problem with the x5340
What you will see
A communication error appears when you try to print or scan. Explanation
An issue was recently discovered with some internet
security packages and the listed Lexmark printers. The issue turned out
to be with the "Parental Controls" module of the packages. NOTE: Most 2008 versions of internet security packages do not have this issue. What to do
Use Add/Remove Programs to remove the Parental Controls module.
If this option is not available, remove the internet security
package (ISP) completely. For additional information or a product
update, please contact your ISP providers. ISP providers offer a free
download to their customers.

Please take note of the following requirements to be able to fax on your Lexmark X2600 printer:
The printer is connected to a computer with an active fax modem, and both the printer and computer are on.
The Lexmark Fax Solutions and Lexmark Productivity Studio software are installed on your computer. Installing these programs is optional. If you have not installed these programs, uninstall and reinstall the printer software. Make sure to choose to install the Lexmark Fax Solutions and Lexmark Productivity Studio programs.
If you still need assistance, please contact the Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.
I have seen that in most of the cases (with lexmark and dell printers) it is fixed by reinstalling the printer software. Be sure that you completely remove the older drivers using the cd or using add/remove programs
Go out to Lexmark web site and look for a vista update in their software download section. So this should solve your problem. Most of the cds which come with equipment do not contain vista software and drivers.
I had this same problem...drove me crazy for a week. Called the geek squad at Best Buy and they mentioned something about a"patch" (which I had no idea what that meant) on the website of the printer. I went to Lexmark website, and selected 1200 series and windows vista (which is what's installed on my computer) A page came up to install a driver that made the two compatible and it worked!!!
