Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54GS Router (e125894)

No Connecton with wireless computer

I bought a Dynex G Router and a wireless card. My brother installed it for me and moved the computer about 20 ft away on the enclosed back porch bdrm. The router is in the dining room. It worked perfectly fine the first night he set it up. A couple of days later, I was disconnecting the cords to the speakers and accidentally unplugged the router and modem, which are by each other. I tried to later connect to the internet and couldn't. It says no connection, and under the Dynex where I click, it is a key or lock there. What does that mean. And why all of a sudden I cant get a connection. The lights on the modem are on.

well step one is to make sure the router and modem are connect properly. is it dsl, cable? and then make sure your network card is operating properly. what operating system are you running and the network card is Dynex as well? are you able to connect to internet from somewhere else in the house or sre you posting from work or what have you? will try to make it as easy as possile

Unplug the modem and router. check to make sure the incoming connection to your modem is in the right place. make sure the output cable is in the right place. now make sure the output cable from the modem goes into the "internet" or input connection on the back of the router. now go ahead and plug the modem in and wait for it blink and flash and do its boot up thing. then plug in the router and wait for the same. now try your connection again.
if this doesn't work try this -
if you are running windows xp or vista -
start -> run -> type "CMD" press enter. when the command box opens type "ping 192.168.1.1" no quotes. you should get something a long the lines of "Pinging 192.168.1.1 with 32 bits data" and a few attempts at it. if you dont get this let me know. otherwise do this after --
"ping 72.14.205.100" this is google. you should see the same thing. pinging with 32 data, etc, etc.. if not then let me know..

let me know what happened and we'll move onto the next step.

    let me know

It just means tat the connection is secure
wat you could try would be

1) take out power for modem then dynex router

2) power the modem n then router

3) if this doesnt work you would have to redo the wireless setting on the computer

No connection with wireless router

Have you tried using an ethernet cable instead of a USB cable? USB connections for internet traffic aren't always the best.
If you can make the change to ethernet and then open your command prompt and type ipconfig /all and tell me what ipaddress, subnet mask, and default gateway it says.

Wireless internet

If you installed the wireless utility for your adapter try using that instead.
You can also enable first the Wireless Zero Configuration on XP
Click Start-RUN- Type services.msc on the RUN box then on the services local look for Wireless Zero Configuration, Right click on it and select start thats it you should have a View available wireless network option now.
