GE Spectra XL 44 Gas Oven Bottom Heating Element Faulty

The Oven part doea not turn on at all & I do not detext any gas leaking. The broiler section ( @ the top ) works perfectly fine. Any ideas? Does the broiler heating element and the standrd heating element work simultaneously? GE XL44 Gas Range, after replacing the oven igniter it glows red and I smell the gas but the lower oven burner does not light. I can light it with a match but it will go out after 5 min.

We have the same problem and the gas guy was just here a few minutes ago. Suggested that if the stove is over five years old it might be time to replace it in its entirety. 18 months ago we had the same thing done -- replaced the gas valve -- and it needs to be replaced again. The gas guy said he sees a lot of that in gas ovens, in general.

SOURCE: xl44 gas

two things either hte clock(control ) assy not sending powerdown to the igiotr, or hte valve that the ignitor is connected to onst nay good, unplugh the unit andwitha meter try testing the 2 wire connections on the top of the safety valve( i wire goes to the ignitor nad the other is a neutral wire htt hooks downt to under the valve for the broiler, you should show continuity across those to leads, if not your valve is no good and will need replacing

SOURCE: Whirlpool Accubake Super Capacity 465 gas range. Oven won't light

Some gas ranges may take 10 or so minutes to light.
Other than that you may have a defective glow bar ignitor.
If it glows and does not light the reistance in the ignitior has failed.

SOURCE: oven doesn't heat up

Hi, Even though your igniter is glowing it's bad..A igniter should glow brillient yellow for it to be able to light the gas...basically whats happening in your case is although the igniter is drawing the correct amps to open the gas valve it is not getting hot enough quick enough to light it..change the igniter and you should be good to go. Good Luck!!! Mike

If it takes more than 2 minutes to light then that ignitor is weak. It should be very bright. It has to draw 3.5 amps to open the valve. The valve is good because the ignitor is working the oven control is good, all it can be is a weak ignitor. It should draw 3.5 amps or have measure 37 ohms.

Gas oven is not working but broiler is working

Hi,
The problem usually is the ignitor. Even if it glows it may not be pulling enough current to open the gas valve. They also are very fragile and break easily.
This tip will help you also.

GE gas oven--Spectra--the oven does not heat--the broiler works, however

Most common problem is the glow bar ignitor. Lift off the bottom panel of the oven and remove. (Some have two screws holding the panel at the back of the panel.) Turn the oven on and see if the glow bar glows.
Even if the glow bar glows doesn't mean that it is working 100%. An amp probe is need to see if the glow bar is drawing the proper amperage to allow the gas valve to open allowing gas to come to the burner. The glow bar should draw about 3.5 to3.8 amps. If drawing more or less than this, replace the glow bar ignitor.
I hope this helps.

Bottom burner in my oven barely comes on, in turn, not heating my oven to the temperature that is selected. Top burner (or broiler seems to work fine). The gas stove is a GE XL44 and is 6 years old. Please...

You need a new t-stat control. Your element is fine. Give us a call with your complete model number and we'll get the right part out to you asap to get you ready for the winter.

Oven won't light - electronic ignition oven

Hi, it could be your, electric heating element and oven burner gas valve. both are located in oven burner compartment, remove last bottom panel, locate oven burner, the valve that feed gas to burner, has two wires connected to it, that's oven valve could be faulty, also look on side oven burner, you will see electrical heating element, could also be faulty, it's better to replace both oven valve and element, that's the most common problem, but first check oven thermostat, that's knob you turn to light oven, if thermostat o/k, then it's your oven valve or heating element, (used to ignite oven burner) or call a mechanic, good luck.

MY BROIL ELEMENT WON'T IGNITE ON MY MGS5870ADW MATAG GAS RANGE AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT PART TO ORDER. BACK ELEMENT OR IGNITER IS GLOWING RED.

It could be that the ignitor is weak and only partially heating which could be causing the gas control valve not to open and allowing the gas to flow into the broiler burner tube.

I would also suggest you see if you can smell gas to confirm that the gas supply valve is actually opening up. With the oven door closed, turn on the broiler and after 20-30 seconds of having the ignitor glowing red, turn off the broiler control and open the door and see if you can smell gas, if not it could be either a weak ignitor or a faulty gas control valve.

I would suggest that before you start ordering parts, you swap out the oven ignitor with the broiler ignitor to verify that the broiler ignitor is the problem. It could also be the broiler tube has a blockage of some sort possibly from cooking debris, that is preventing gas from flowing into the tube.

Here's a diagram for your unit along with the parts list.
