On Dell computers it is rare that the XP install disk properly reinstalls your Network Card drivers. If you have the Device Drivers CD that came with your dell (usually a blue or gray disk) you can install the drivers (usually a Broadcom or Intel NIC /LAN or Network Interface driver) then your PC can "see" internet connections. The CD will show you all the drivers you can install with a check mark next to each that apply to your system.

If you do not have the CDROM, go to support.dell.com on another PC and enter your system tag# (on the bottom or back) and look in "Network" and find the driver there. There are a few options so you might need to try several drivers till you find the one that works. 90% of Dell pc's come with Broadcom so try that first. save the driver to a disk or flash drive and run it on the PC in question.

You also will likely need drivers for the video card and chipset as well.

My e machine crashed i reinstall win xp now it will not connect to the internet using dsl device manager said that modem was working also there are no com ports showing

HI jar5. Did you install the ethernet driver after the Windows reinstallation? The DSL modem uses 2 interfaces. The USB and the Ethernet. YOu can use the modem´s Driver to use it thru the USB or you can use another computer go to the emachines´website and under support or drivers select your model and download the drivers because probably you also dont have sound, etc. I hope this helps. Please do not forget to rate and provide positive feedback for our fast - free support today. Thank you :D

I just ran the recovery disks to cure a severe

Do you have separate installation driver disks for those items? If not, you can use a friends PC to go on line and download them. You can also get more information under control panel - system - hardware - device manager. The PC will show you which items are having trouble and any information it can get from the component. If it shows unidentified it is very likely the driver is not installed. But note - are you sure it was a virus and not a failing hard drive. If problems return now that you are going it is more likely the HD.

I had to reload my windows xp reinstallation resource cd a couple of weeks ago. Now I am unable to access the internet. I installed all the drivers that needed to be installed. I have DSL and the ISP...

Try this, go to your device manager and uninstall all your modem info from your computer. Restart your computer and let the drivers reinstall. Might want to have the CD for your modem. What has happened is when you reinstalled your windows it place part of your computer back to default mode. In order to place the entire computer back to factory default you have to format your hard drive than reinstall your systems disk. Only problem you lose all your info. I recommend to people to use a external hard drive these days and place all your personal information on this. If I was there I could take care of it for you. There's only so much I can send you without knowing all the facts. Try sending me more info after you try this. Feel free to contact me.
