Go to msconfig and disable everything accept the antivirus and restart the system and when you get a popup put a check up saying do not show this msg again
than right click on the my computer > properties > than click on advanced > performance > settings > advanced > virtual memory > change > custom size > initial size = 2000 > maximum size=3000
click on set and than apply and ok and than restart the system again

At times, the boot-up is slow and the computer is slow/sluggish because the disk is not "clean" or there's a shortage of storage space remaining. If you have already tried using the Disk Utilities and/or other tools (e.g. Onyx) to fix/clean up the disk, and it still doesn't make any difference, and you still have a good amount of disk space remaining, and all your memory (RAM) is still working, there may be something else going on ... e.g. another process taking place behind the scene (e.g. downloads/uploads) and using lots of resources.

To get the device back to factory settings is the cold boot not enough. Xp booting very slow on my acer 5740

Do a PC maintenance to your mid-range laptop.
1. Install CCleaner and clean-up your laptop.. disable any unused start-up programs
2. Install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, update and scan
3. Install any antivirus programs, update and scan.

Hope this helps.

Tuneup utilities 2007 is a good product it is a trial version but it will clean out your machine including the registry download it here.

http://www.tune-up.com/

More than anything this is your problem make sure you check to see what is booting up and what does not need to boot up follow waht the sofware says and clean out and optimize your registry.  It will take some time but the fruit of all will be when you have completed.  Do what I say and your machine will be like new.
