Question about Sony RM-ASP001 Remote Control
I was using the remote to program the DVD player and it was working fine. Then it got bumped by someone walking by and the batteries fell out, (lid for battery box is missing). I put the batteries back in and it no longer worked. I replaced the batteries but it still didn't work. I tried a different remote on the DVD player and that worked fine. I tested the sony remote using a digital camara and the light worked ok for all buttons.
I hope someone here may have an idea as to why the controller stopped working.
Try the command code switch. I recently had a similar problem when my remote suddenly stopped working. It worked fine one time but nothing the next time I tried it.
I checked the emitter with a digital camera and found it was not working. I did the remote reset (remove batteries and push all the buttons twice, reinsert batteries) and the emitter was now working. However, the remote would still not control the base unit. I did the remote base code reset (push power, volume and TV/DVD buttons together) but this did not help. I then checked the command code switch. This is a small three position slide switch located in the battery compartment on the remote. I slid the switch back and forth several times returning to the default number one setting where it was before. I did not change anything on the base unit but the remote now worked.
Hope this helps.

The solution provided by alexlindsay worked for me! I was prepared to spend $40 on a new remote, convinced mine was shot. All I ended up doing was removing the batteries, hitting every button twice. That did not fix it, but then I did what they said - I checked the command code switch. This is a small three position slide switch located in the battery compartment on the remote. I slid the switch back and forth several times returning to the default number one setting where it was before. That fixed it! I think it may be important to slide the switch back and forth several times - just a couple of times did not work for me. Thanks alexlindsay!

Our remote had been not working for a few months.
Today, in another attempt to either price a cheaper replacement or a fix, I happened upon this site.
I tried the series of fixes offered on this page, with no success.
On a whim, I decided to try the 3 position switch in the alternate positions. I figured I had nothing to lose if the remote was truly broken. I tried position 3 with no success.
I put the switch in position 2 and tried it and it WORKED!

I too lucked on this site after not dealing with a dead remote for a number of months. I was going to find a replacement today, and came across this site. I love FIXYA!!!! I tried everthing suggested. I worked the 3position switch in the battery compartment a number of times. Just on a whim I tried the other settings, and #3 worked for me. I'd sugesst put in new batteries and work the switch some, and then try all three numbered positions and you might find one the works!!! thanks again and good luch to others who have this problem.

I had the same issue as everyone else here. I put my Sony 400 disc Changer in storage between moves and when I set it up at new home the remote would not work. I too was ready to buy a replacement remote because the original is no longer made. I came upon this site and tried what others have suggested. I moved tiny switch in battery compartment probably close to ten times with no success. I then moved it few more times and tried position 2 and 3...nothing. I then turned the unit on at the base and tried positions 2 and 3 again....nothing. I then put it back in default position 1 and walla the remote worked and turned the base off. Just to be sure I turned it on and off several tines with the remote. Word of advice keep trying!

I followed the advise of others here and it worked! Move the command switch under the battery compartment, several times 4-6 total. Put batteries back in and whalla!!! it works!! Thanks fixya and everyone here with their personal experiences.
