This unit will not stay turned on. Tried the "reboot" button to no avail. Seems the battery will not take a charge. Can this battery be replaced?? Rio literature says "no". If it really can be replaced, how do you open the unit???

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
You would literally have to break it open with a screwdriver or wedge, smashing/damaging other components in the process (trust me, I did it).

Usually, the Reboot routine is done by holding down the Power ON/OFF button for a while (5 seconds or more) until it reboots. Don't be surprised if it takes a minute or so. Alternatively, consider using the RESET button ... then do the Reboot routine. Make sure your battery is well charged, remove the SD card, and hold the RESET (pin) down for 20 seconds or so (until the screen shuts off). Then do the Reboot routine.
Plug unit in 110 power, then turn it off. You are going to manually reboot system. When unit is completely off, then turn on, but this time, when turn it on keep the on button fully depressed, do not let go regardless as the unit is turning on, and even when it is coming on going through its thing, keep on button depressed for 10 seconds after unit fires up. Then let go, and this is manually rebooting it, See if now it functions properly, Please let me know, and if fixed, then the 4 thumbs up for my solution with small comment is most appreciated. I had this happen to me on one occasion with a nuvi 1300. Pressing the power button any number of times would not turn on the unit. Also, plugging in the car charger did not turn on the unit or charge it either.
I found that holding the power button for 10-15 seconds forced the unit to reboot, and it started just fine after that.
Since then, I've had an even more irritating issue, where holding the power button for 10-15 seconds would restart the unit, but it would freeze at the "loading maps." part. I ended up plugging the unit into my PC, which started it for purposes of data transfer. I then disconnected it from the PC and it restarted properly.
Try those out and see if you have any better luck.
Do a search of this problem and you will ind that every JVC owner is having the same problem. I finally got mine "reset" by powering the unit on in payback mode while holding down the "play" button. Then, turn it back off and power it on in the camera mode while holding down the "rec" button. This seems to have reset it and I've not had anymore issues SO FAR! Good luck with it.
do the hard reset again .. hold the power button down while operating the reset in the back .. keep the power button down for a few seconds .. that should bring up a display "delete all" .. you can choose to do so .. that will be a hard reset .. now if the battery is dead and the charger is not working then nothing will work for you .. you might have a bad charger .. often the end that plugs into the unit develops a broken wire inside the cable ..
the m515 wont charge from the sync cable (shame) it needs the external power adapter .. make sure the connections on the charger and palm are clean .. the power adapter is 5 volts and i think about 1 amp .. )(center pos) if you want to try another adapter .. the tip is rather standard ... also you can get a universal power adapter from radio shack that will work on just about anything .. you just plug in a suitable tip .. the tip for your palm is an "A19" .. the power adapter is "IGO" wall adapter 23-1401 model PSM08VADJ ... that seems to work nicely and it plugs directly in to the palm .. so you can work with it plugged in .. when the charger is working there should be a lightning bolt thru the battery symbol .. it sounds like you already know that .. if the battery has gone open then it may not indicate a charge .. but the unit should still work while on the charger if that is actually working ....
Hello, Here was my problem. I was traveling at 60mph yesterday and my Nuvi 360 dislodged and fell down with a huge impact inside my car. I came home and tried to look for any damage. Unfortunately Nuvi had stopped to continue beyond loading maps screen. I tried rebooting , but the problem persisted. It would take me to reboot screen, but after screen calibration, when it came to loading map screen, again went blank. I tried this and just simple starting by pushing power button several times but to no avail. I called technical support, eho advised me to to just simply connect it to my labtop and leave it that way for 3 to4 hours. Bingo!, in the next 30 mins, I accidentally switched my laptop top off, but Nuvi had started to work all fine.
