Xbox in game 'blinking'

When playing games on the xbox the menu screens continuously blink making it difficult to read headings. also when playing certain games subtitles, hud's, and basically anything that pops on the screen blinks and is impossible to read. pretty annoying and would love any advice on fixing the problem. thanks.

Re: xbox in game 'blinking'

Was the system hooked up to an HDTV with component cables and then moved to a non hdtv? I had a similar problem when I changed my xbox from the hdtv to the non hdtv. I fixed it by using the RCA cables that came with the xbox and not the component cables that I bought from best buy.

On my xbox 360 when i'm playing a game then suddenly directs me to the desk top and when i shut my xbox 360 off the power button flashes green every few seconds why is this happening ?

It sounds like a DVD drive error. When the center light inside the "ring of light" blinks rapidly it thinks the DVD drive is either open or not connected. You can buy a new DVD drive off Ebay for a decent price or take it to a professional shop. When changing the DVD drive you have to also put the original PCB from the old drive onto the new one or it will not play games. It will play DVD's all day but no games. There is a bit of soldering involved. If your not confident you can make the repair check out this site for help. they do good work and are very reasonable.

@_@ Loco Xbox 360 Problem Guys I have no idea whats wrong with it. It's not playing any games. The laser reads CDs and DVDs flawlessly. The crazy part about it is that it DOES READ the games initially...

It seems your laser isn't reading the second layer on the games. Regular DVDs have only one layer of information, Xbox 360 games are "Dual Layered" meaning twice as much information in the same area. I would recommend buying a replacement laser from eBay and installing it yourself (as you already know how to take the Xbox apart)

The power light blinks, reads open tray/close tray . . .

it sounds like your dvd drive is dead if its still under warranty you should just send it back to microsoft the only other thing you could do is buy a replacement dvd drive and put it in yourself but only do that if microsoft wont take it or you'll void your warranty

Xbox does not read discs.

Getting to the dashboard screen is a good thing but still cannot rule out a bad circuit board or power supply. All the symptoms point to a bad DVD drive but the opening/closing by itself do indicate a problem with the microprocessor. Can you turn the power on and off with the small button?? If not, would definitely suspect bad board.
