Question about Lexmark X1150 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

X 1150 I have an X1150 printer/copier and a clear long plastic tape or band like piece came loose. Without the band, the printer cartridges slam to each end of the printer cabinet. I need to know where the band attaches to put it back.

That's the "encoder strip" which tells helps the printer cartridges know where they are. It runs the length of the printer and runs through the cartridge carrier. There should be some places to attach it on either side of the printer, although you they may be difficult to reach without opening the printer by removing some screws.

Here you got bud just copy and paste all this **** below into the http:// window at the top of your web box:

You gotta reset the plastic piece at the end. Also, get you some black electric tape and tape the 2 circular clear plastic plugs on each end of the cartridge. The sneaky bastards at Brother shoot a laser through these clear plastic plugs and when the toner goes below these plugs that causes your printer to say your out of toner even though your not. Therefore if you tape over these clear plugs, then you can squeeze another 225 pages of pure printing bliss without needing a replacement.

Problem Powering On

Open the cover and look for a strip of plastic that the cartridges move along. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO DISCONNECT THIS PIECE. If you can access it use a damp cloth to wipe any ink/dirt from this - DO NOT use chemicals as there are markings on this strip that are used for positioning. The slamming is caused because the printer cannot read the cartridge position.

Changing ink cartridges

Make sure the printer is ON.

Open the top of the printer.

The cartridges are inside the cartridge carrier. You need to squeeze the tabs on the carrier which will flip up the lids to reveal the ink cartridges.

For reference, here are links to the setup sheet and the user guide. The setup sheet has pictures that should help.

If the printer carrier is slamming into the side of the printer, please try the following:
  1. Disconnect the power supply from the back of the printer.
  2. Open the front cover of the printer where the cartridges are located.
  3. Look for two black bands that span from left to right (they should have one serrated side and one smooth side). Just above the black bands there is a transparent strip; this strip is called the Encoder strip.
  4. Flick this strip lightly with your finger to make sure that it is running smoothly from left to right. You may need to do this two or three times. CAUTION: Do not pull the strip!
  5. Close the front cover of the printer and reconnect the power supply.
  6. If the problem persists, you may need to contact Lexmark Technical Support.
