Many internet provider only covers the installation of the cable modem. When you connect a router to the modem, the internet provider views the router as a new computer and not authorized since when they setup the modem, it was connecting directly to the computer, not the router. You need to contact your internet provider and let them know the situation, and usually they have a website to activate or add the router to their list under your account. If this is not done, usually it won't be able to get the internet.

I'm trying to connect a new iPad to our home wireless network. The network key for the Linksys WRT5-4G router that always works on every other computer does not work with the iPad. What steps do I need to...

  1. From the iPad's Homescreen, tap Settings. (This assumes you didn't rearrange your apps. If you did, find the Settings icon wherever you put it.)
  2. In the Settings screen, tap Network.
  3. To start the iPad scanning for available wireless networks, tap the WiFi button and then slide the slider to "on". In a few seconds, you'll see a list of all the networks near you, whether they're public or private (if you don't see the list, there may not be any within range).
  4. The list of WiFi networks you'll see will include two kinds: public and private. Private networks have a lock icon next to them; Public don't. The bars next to each network indicate the strength of the connection - more bars means a faster connection.

To connect to a public network, just tap the network name and you'll be online.

  5. If you want to access a private network, you'll need a password. Assuming you've got the password, tap the network name and enter it the password. Then tap the "join" button at the bottom right of the screen. If your password is correct, you'll connect to the network and be surfing the web. If not, try entering it again (assuming you've got the right one, of course).
  6. Advanced users can click the arrow to the right of the network to access more technical configuration settings. Everyday users probably won't need to look at these options.

Links stopped working when I tried to set up my new cumputer

If you have reset the router then you must start afresh as if you are connecting a new connection. You must be having the CD of the software and the instructions which came with the router. Load it on the computer and follow the instructions. It is simple.

I want to secure my network because my neighbor is using my connection. Can you please help me. I have tried all of the links I was told to use and 192.168.1.1 and nothing is working. Please please help...

to secure the wireless network , you will need to access the router set up.
You said that you tried all the links like 192.168.1.1, but nothing is working.
Did you check the IP address on the computer ?
First check the IP address on the computer and Default gateway number.
Default gateway will be the number that you will use to open the set up.
