Try unplugging the oven from the electrical power. May release the lock, which is held in place by a tiny micro switch. If not and while the electric is still off or the oven is unplugged, use a bright light flashlight to look through the slot where the lock is in the oven, not in the door.

You may be able to use a thin blade screwdriver to move the lock to the release position. Check the angle of the lever. A slightly bent lever handle also can cause this type of condition.

If all else fails, remove the access panel on the front of the oven to access the locking device and release it. May have to disconnect the wires to the lock which will allow door to function but not during any self cleaning modes.

For F9 possible resolution can be applied on Maytag Oven:

The Bake or Lock icon may flash rapidly in the display to alert you if there is an error or a problem.

If the Bake or Lock icon flashes in the display, press the Cancel
pad. If the Bake or Lock icon continues to flash, disconnect power to
    the appliance.

Wait a few minutes, and then reconnect power. If the icon flashing
still continues, disconnect power to the appliance and call an
    authorized service Station.

Best of Luck & Merry Christmas,

    Scott

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, to my knowledge, an "F9" error indicates a door lock problem. Might it be the problem is the switch/sensor that detects if the door is fully closed and latched?

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

What is an F8 error code meaning? Thanks!

From this website ::
http://www.ehow.com/facts_7597003_maytag-range-error-codes.html

Codes "F0," "F1," "F5," "F6," "F7," "F8" and "F9" are all various errors with the Maytag electronic range control, or ERC. The errors are various faults with the ERC and a replacement part is needed for the range.

F8 Analog/Digital supervisory Replace clock assembly (also called the ERC) More info, let me know. Charlie

Error code f9 is telling me what

Hi, F9 indicates a door lock problem. If no problems are found with the latch mechanism you will need to replace the ERC/clock module. For diagrams and illustrations enter your model # at

F9 Error- the lock for the self-clean cycle accidently was pushed in the lock position without having the door closed

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa.
F9 error in your Maytag indicates Door latch issue and to resolve this you'll have to check the door lock circuit. If that is fine then replace the clock assembly/Electronic range control (ERC). Please rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Range displays error code f9-5

HI. This indicates that there are serious issues that concern the operational value of the main control abord(ERC/Clock).

This will require you to replace the ERC, asap.

F9 error message - what does it mean and how can I fix?

If the heading you used is correct and this is a Maytag Kitchen Range, "F9" is a Door Latch Supervisory error, or a defective Electronic Range Control (ERC) board (this is the clock assembly board). Since you mentioned you are having difficulty with the door latch mechanism, I would attempt to repair or replace it first. The door latch costs around $50, while the ERC runs about $140-$150 @ repairclinic.com. Just type in your COMPLETE model number in the Search menu and there's a complete parts listing available with illustrations. They also have a service manual available (item# 893398) for about $30 that you can order to assist in repairs. Post back if you need further assistance, please. I hope this helps you.
