Laptop will not work without the ac connected

I have a toshiba satellite A105-S4014. It will not power up without the ac connected. I replaced the battery and it worked when first turned on but now will not work with just the battery. The battery icon showes 77% charge remaining. The LED for the battery is yellow all the time the ac is connected. I updated the bios as suggested by a toshiba newsletter update with no effect. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks, Billy

With laptops I noticed that if you remove the battery and the AC adapter then hold the power button for 30 seconds, then place the battery sometimes it will see the battery again. If not, the battery may need replacement. Hope this helps.

I have noticed that a lot of newer notebooks have problems booting off the batteries. I'm not sure how updating the bios helps, but its a start. What you might want to do is make sure the power settings in bios aren't trying to save power by going to sleep or something. If they all look normal or are off (what i would do) check the settings in windows and set them the same way as you did bios. If none of the above then contact the manufacturer, You might have a bad connection or something internal.
Hope this helps, If not let me know

On my toshiba A105 my keyborad dont response y need help please maybey lost de drivers

keyboard doesn't require drivers. Someone was kind enough to post the steps on replacing a Toshiba A105 keyboard, and since I'm lazy, I'll paste the link here so you can use it to check and see if your laptop's keyboard is securely connected underneath.

http://www.ehow.com/how-does_5021575_replacing-toshiba-laptop-keyboard.html

If your keyboard appears to be securely connected, then it'd gone bad - it happens more than you think - and I'd replace it. Best place to buy replacement keyboards (new or used) is eBay, and anything above $15 is a price reserved only for foreign tourists.

If a new keyboard suffers the same fate, then your A105's motherboard is bad - I haven't seen one go bad in this manner before, but I'll mention it just to worry you some....

In the event of an emergency, you can use a USB keyboard with this laptop and they should be pretty available and cheap locally.

Sherry:

Toshiba has provided specific information on how to upgrade your model of laptop to Windows 7 here (click here).

Apparently it is not a matter of just following the basic Windows 7 instructions and they have provided software to assist with the upgrade.

Thanks for using FixYa and Happy New Year!

Toshiba Satellite A105-S4048 problem with AC Adapter When I turn the laptop on with the AC adapter, after checking the BIOS freezes and does not boot Windows. If I turn the laptop in only with battery boot...

There's not much you can do. The problem is definately with your motherboard. I'd recommend a bios update, but normally you can ONLY run a bios update if the battery and the ac are both plugged in.

This problem is pretty common among Toshiba's A105 and P105 models.

Besides replacing the motherboard there's not much you can do.

Sorry.

Dead could be a shorted MOSFET in the CPU line which is common for the age. Need to verify Voltage at Jack and the I/O's the BIOS chip..

No power

Can you just clarify how much you are certain the adapter is OK......did you you for argument sake try another adapter. The battery might be poked or that adapter not going. I know laptops may get sentimental (so to speak)but they dont just shut down for no reasons technically unless the battery is stuffed or there is NO power to the unit. Thats why the LEDS are not lighting up?
