if you have windows vista please inform and I will put the steps required to do it with that this is for windows xp but yes like others have stated removing the files are good but I think cleaning both the sd card and internal memory would remove the updates and then put it back to stock, but keeping the backup for if you need it can never be too safe.

good luck and hope this helps

Several months ago, i updated the operating software for my Tom Tom GO740 but it created a problem with my live services. I was unable to connec to my live services because the updated software disabled...

Did you make a back up before updating the GPS ? If yes I will advise to revert back to the previous software until tomtom confirms that this bug has been fixed. If you have not backed up your device then look for the downloadable version of it from the internet.Hope this helps and good luck with that. Any question please feel free to ask.

Dispite connecting and updating my tom tom 910

It is asking you IF you want to connect it to the computer. There is no problem with that. Every time you connect it to a USB port of a computer you are asked if you want to connect it to the computer. If you want to do so Tap Yes; if you don't, tap No. It will do what YOU ask it to do.

Frequent connections to a computer will ensure that your unit has the latest software updates, map corrections through MapShare.

My computer wont detect my tom tom go

go to tomtom's website and manually download their software. Save it to your HD and run it.

The program should automaticly load the correct drivers and will prompt you when to connect the GPS.

TAKE NOTE of how long you are allowed to get free map updates and make sure you do update the maps before that time expires.

also with my GO720 I skipped an update so instead of the update costing $49 they now want double that because my maps are 2 revisions old.

720 go wont let me download music onto it wont let me operate it on the computer

Have you installed an expansion memory card in the 720? Sometimes it wont let you download music because you have filled up the internal memory. You need to put music on to the separate expansion card. BUT... when connecting to the computer to update map corrections and software, if you have not selected INTERNAL MEMORY when it connects, it won't be able to find the tom tom software, so it will just think you have another external USB hardrive attached. SO... take the expansion card out of the tom tom, then connect the tom tom to the computer in the normal way - Voila, suddenly it now sees the tom tom and you can update software. But do not download any more music to the internal memory. Ultimately you will have to format the EXTERNAL expansion card to clear it of any tom tom software updates, then download ONLY MUSIC to the external card. Do not hit Update My Tom Tom while connected to the external card - only do this when connected to the internal memory.

Up date maps

To update maps you should run Tom Tom home on your computer and then connect the GPS

It will then ask you if you want to connect to the computer and you would tell your GPS yes.

Tom Tom home will once it finds your GPS then proceed to do any minor updates.

If your map is out of date it will offer you the option of purchasing a newer version.

don't be tempted to look for free / pirate maps !
These can cause problems in starting up your GPS (believe me)

Tom Tom map prices are not too bad and compared to many GPS are quite easy to install using Tom Tom home.

If you don't have Tom Tom home the latest version can be found here.

Try this.
Run TTH without your unit connected.
Click on update my device (or any other process that you need TTH to perform).
You will then be prompted to connect and turn on the tomtom.
Connect and power up the device, if it asks you if you want to connect to computer, select yes (it does not always ask).
