Question about Heating & Cooling

Furnace Blower cycles on & off

I have a Intertherm forced air gas furnace model#MGHA075ABFC-01 in my mobile home and recently after the burner fires up the blower comes on for a few seconds and shuts down and continues cycling as long as it keeps calling for heat. I understand that this is normal for the blower to shut down until the temperature is high enough in the heat exchanger but this cycling goes on for hours. The heat ducks get so hot, you can't touch them. Is there some sort of sensor or swith that might be malfunctioning and how can I test it? I have some electrical testing equipment. Thanks.......Guy

Check out the fan switch on the unit and make sure that its the correct one. it should cycloe on @ 120 degrees and cycle off around 100 degrees. Someone may have put in a different one and that is not the approve one.

There is a sensor called a pressure switch that is attached to the area of the blower motor for the exhaust fan. It is bad or plugged.

I HAVE A MODEL UFG-101AG-4 SERIAL # 800H2 INTERTHERM FORCED AIR FURNACE FOR MOBILE HOME OR TRAVEL TRAILER THAT I DONT KNOW WHATS WRONG WITH IT?

OK. Let me answer you, even if honestly I don't have any idea about an INTERTHERM FORCED AIR FURNACE. To get any answer, to a problem, you should describe your problem. Just telling that you don't know what's wrong with it is simply no enough information, even for a star expert in your INTERTHERM FORCED AIR FURNACE.

Intertherm/nordyne furnace (24 years old)

Shut off power, get a small wrench, remove orifice spuds and clean them with toothpick. Take burners out and clean rust from them. Check and see if you are getting 24 volts to gas valve. If not replace it.

I have an old Intertherm gas-fired furnace, Model MGH-055AB which ceased operating last night. It was quite warm when I arrived home, and when I set the heat up a little, began to hum, but the fan would...

Tom P's answer is generally correct: The motor start capacitor is usually not the problem. However, in some cases, particularly on older furnaces, where there were capacitors of certain make and production run will prematurely fail. This happened in March on a mobile home HVAC unit where both the blower fan and condenser fan motor capacitors failed open circuit. Both caps were of the same Mfg, and production lot.
Here is a suggestion (for you or an electrically inclined friend): Locate a substitute motor capacitor having similar Mfd (or MF) and Voltage ratings. Remove power from the unit. Reach into the blower squirrel cage and spin it to verify that the shaft is not frozen. Pull the wires from the existing capacitor noting color and location. Connect the wires to the substitute capacitor and secure it place. Apply power and turn on the blower. A no start? Motor replacement time.

If this is a mobile home furnace they usually have a two stage gas valve. Generally they just have a delay in opening fully and are convertable from L.P to natural gas or vice versa. It is a possibilty that the gas valve is bad. If so it will have to be replaced. First I would have someone check your thermostat to see if that is what is causeing the blower to run . does the burner ever light? I wouldsuggest that you hire a service tech. who is knowledgable on intertherm furnaces. I don't recommend anyone who is not trained to change gas valves, because of safty concerns. I hope this helps you some. Thanks

My intertherm furnace (old model) has recently getting quite loud and clunky during its heating cycles, sound like the blower maybe??

Your blower motor has several speeds to it and by the problem you are having it sounds as though the blower motor may be going out. The motor has a slower speed for the heating cycle and since you have the noise in the heating mode I suggest having the blower motor changed as soon as possible since it could cause other problems in the heating section of the furnace( possibly burning out the high limit switches). Good Luck on your repairs hope this helped

Coleman Presidential II mobile home furnace. When burner lights the blower cycles on and off instead of blowing constant through burner cycle.

Is this furnace standing pilot or electronic ignition. If standing pilot i would check furnace filter then the thermastat. To test themostat first turn power off to furnace. Take thermostat off wall and take wires labled R & W and connect them together. If you have electronic ignition I would start with cleaning the flame sensor with steel wool or wire brush. If you have and more questions i will be glad to help.
