My over the range microwave has stopped heating. It sounds like it is working, the light is on, the turntable works, but it doesn't heat the food. Any ideas?
With the symptoms you
have, I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier
diode or a bad magnetron, or a loose and possibly corroded connection on the magnetron's terminal.
The diode is a fairly
cheap fix, and the mag will cost more.
If you or someone you
know
decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and
disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.
There
should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit
behind the
control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is
very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.
At
our Web site, we have a video
available showing how to remove a typical
over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
Here are some links you
or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety
warnings first:

The door handle has broken twice .... I even taped it with heat resistant tape ... the tech said that I was cleaning it with chemicals and that caused the problem, so this time I used just water to clean and it happened again. The micro is further away than the recommended height from the stove. Is this a common problem with this model? This is the third time already. the handle is plastic. JOB

It tripped a circuit breaker two or three times over a week. On the final time, resetting the circuit breaker did not make the microwave work. Changed outlets, still nothing. How does one trip the magnetron for the thermostat?
