Repost of A70 Mode Switch Problem

This is a repost of the A70 Mode Switch Problem, as it is marked as solved when there is no solution. I originally thought my camera was dead. I replaced with a newly charged set of batteries and still dead. Finally I took the camera apart to have a look. In the mean time I discovered that the charger had a 2 cell/4 cell switch, and only 2 batteries were charged. On reassembly, my mode switch stopped working. I disassembled again and found a broken lever on the mode microswitch. Finally located a new switch, replaced it and reassembled. It worked for one switch operation, then the same problem. I took the camera apart again, and again the switch lever was broken. Are there any reassembly tips or tricks to reassemble the camera ? Also are there any more sources for a new switch ?

Re: Repost of A70 Mode Switch Problem

Make sure that the mode switch on the cover is in the playback position. Unfortunately, I don't have a source for new switches.

How can i take close up photos with my A70

Use close-up mode and place the camera on a tripod or solid surface to prevent blur from moving. Tilt the items so the flash (if you use one) will bounce away from the camera. Try using no flash with diffuse lighting or lighting at an angle to show the marks. Close-up mode is usually denoted by an icon that looks like a flower or tulip. Usually you can get as close as 6 or 7 inches and zoom-in in that mode.

The camera is stuck in picture review mode. Try sliding the mode switch back and forth a couple times, and leave it in camera mode to see if this corrects the problem.

My powershot A70 will not take a picture

It is a common problem with this camera. I had to send my back to have it fixed. Luckly it was under warrnity. Sorry I can not recall what they said was wrong, but talking to others, it seems to be common.

Canon A70 stays in replay mode

Gerry, The mode switch is a very common problem that causes the camera to remain in either play or camera mode. The stem breaks off the top of the switch and no longer functions. If this is not the case, the flex harness (operations unit) can get torn on top if the camera has been dropped. If the switch appears to be good, check for ground switching between the two outer legs of the switch, the micro gets a low signal from the mode switch to determine what state the cameras in. Good luck, this is a nice camera! Joe Weibel Custom Electronics (
