try to update the audio driver of the computer. you can download the latest audio driver from your computer manufacturer's web site then restart your computer.
First you need to know why it is not producing sound. Is the volume turned off (muted)? Did it work and suddenly stop? When you go into the control panel under sounds, does it say that you have no sound drivers? Were they ever there? You might find driver downloads at this site: http://support.necam.com/downloads/
My Kenwood VR-507 had been working great. I hadn't changed anything. I hadn't even moved it. It just suddenly stopped producing sound. It didn't just stop while it was on. I had turned it off and when I turned it back on, nothing. I tried running the speaker setup to see if it would output pink noise, I could hear the test sound, but I couldn't hear any audio from the TV or DVD player..
you sould be able to update direct x to the latest version from microsoft downloads site
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0A9B6820-BFBB-4799-9908-D418CDEAC197&displaylang=en
you will not be able to unintall directx as it is part of windows, the problem comes when games request installation of older direct x versions and then becomes corrupt, so if you have installed anything requesting directx, try and do a system restore to a date previous to the installation.
You can run this test to see which version you have installed and check for problems, click Start>run, then type 'dxdiag' and press enter.
