Menu keeps popping up; Stuck buttons perhaps?

Hey guys i recently got a Dell E153FP Monitor and recently the Menu kept flashing up and when I'd hit the Menu button to make it go away the menu would just be there and all the buttons are unresponsive except the power button. Also The menu will go away then a lock comes up in the middle of the screen and it will appear locked then be unloocked and it does this at random times making it hard to do things...Any ideas?

Yes, a stuck key would be a likely culprit. Sometimes a key will get stuck out of just plain useage/wear, or, pop or other liquid spill or splatter will result in a sticky key. Press on the suspect key-compare to another key- different feel will tell you a problem exists.

Low cost keyboards don't generally have the life expectancy as older higher quality ones. Laptop keyboards are also more fragile, and subject to problems.

After looking more carefully at your description--- You are talking about the buttons on the monitor itself- I was thinking keyboard- oops! Ok, the problem is likely the same though- the menu button/switch is either activated, or something in the logic circuitry is fouled up, making it look like the button is pressed. If it is logic problem, user repair is doubtful at best.

You may be able to take the unit apart and find the problem, if it is a button/switch related. Sometimes there is a tiny switch (tact switch) behind the individual buttons. Or, there the buttons may be part of a rubber like pad with a conductive area, which comes in contact with a matching area on a circuit board. (This latter is like most current remote boxes). If either the switch is activated or the pad area is in constant contact with the circuit board, that particular function is activated.

My guess is, that something went awry in the assembly process and the buttons are positioned too close to the switch or board assembly, and this must be corrected.

One other possibility- there is a short- perhaps a solder bridge- maybe where the board wiring harness is soldered to either the small circuit board where the controls are located, or where the harness solders to the main board.

If this monitor is under warranty, I'd just take it back for an exchange.

Main Menu Keeps Popping up

The only suggestion I could make would be to consider opening the monitor up and inspecting the control panel for a stuck button or damaged control. While this is feasible, the real question is whether it is cost effective if repairable. The ever decreasing cost of equipment is making monitor replacement very affordable, even if it is filling our landfills with junk.

The brightness/contrast box keeps popping up without any buttons being pushed and sometimes scrolls through the options with nothing being pushed

There might be dirt underneath or close to the buttons.Try some compressed air to remove any dirt that might be there.Remember to unplug the monitor before you try to service it.

Menu screen keeps popping on and off during usage

Check the menu button on your monitor. Chances are it is stuck in the depressed position. (Sometimes an edge of the button will get caught beneath the frame.)
