Question about Sprint Hitachi P300 Cellular Phone

My Hitachi 50" TV's color has turned very green

I have manually altered the color to make it more 'normal' but it's not. I can't even watch a black and white - it's now more green and black and very, very dark. A friend of mine mentioned that it most likely was a bulb out - how many bulbs does it have? If this is the problem - could I fix it?
Thanks much for your time and assistance!

The response I got did not help - but thanks. Further not only is the picture green, but very very dark. Brightness is on 100% along with Contrast at 100%. I've tried manually adjusting all colors but it's primary color is still green... a new bulb perhaps? Can I do this myself?

My intelligent guess of what happened is you might have problem in your Y-signal around your video amp section somewhere. Somehow within each frame of the video signal, the voltage representing green color overwriting the actual video signal. After your TV got warm up, the white signal was gone, so you can't see the actual video.

In Y-signal, high voltage in a video frame gives white color, black is low voltage. Everything else is in between. Do I make any sense?

I think the repairman can figure it out for you, but you have to negotiate for reasonable price. If he has a scope, he can find this type of problem quickly. Around my area, just for a repair man to look at the problemed TV cost $45, fixing and parts are extra.

First of all, without the model number any response here is pure speculation. There are a number of reasons for a darker picture. If you would be so kind as to provide the model number, I will be able to give you more details and instructions on how to best resolve this problem.

Thanks,
Dan

Try this

use the advanced options page and reset the factor blue and red convergence defaults then do re apply the auto color defaults color at first it seemed very red (which is good because red was the missing factor in the green picture) but after reseting all the color and tints to the normal ranges I then reset the color auto correct again and all seems fine.

3 bulbs - yellow, blue, red. if it is rear projection.
Simply open the back panel for the projector, and see if the bulbs are lit.

    sorry, red green, blue

Lamp Replacement: This is the biggest detraction to rear projection televisions because lamp replacement can be expensive. A typical replacement lamp for DLP, LCD and LCoS costs at least $200. Most rear projection owners will have to replace a lamp every 3-5 years. Owners of CRT rear projection have an added disadvantage in that when one of the three guns (red, green, blue lamps) goes bad, it is recommended to replace all three to keep the colors balanced. Replacement of those lamps is even more expensive because a professional technician is likely needed to install and calibrate the lamps.

How do I know when it is time to replace my lamp?

Trust me, you’ll know. The screen will lose its brightness and appear dim. You won’t necessarily have to replace the lamp when you notice the dimming. Some people might wait until the bitter end to install a new lamp while others will have one in reserve waiting for the screen to dim. It’s a matter of choice.
How much do replacement lamps cost?

Unfortunately, replacement lamps for all projection televisions are costly – in the over $200 range. Depending on the type of lamp and manufacturer, the cost will vary considerably. Where can I buy a replacement lamp?

I suggest contacting your manufacturer to see what lamp they recommend for your particular television, and to see who is an authorized dealer in your area (if any). There are a lot of good online stores that can send you a lamp usually for a lower price, but I would be a little wary about ordering something fragile like a replacement lamp through the mail. My concerns are that the lamp would be damaged in shipping, and the online retailer might be difficult (a rare case) to work with regarding replacement of the replacement lamp.

    Are they easy to install?

My answer is yes, but I must qualify that by stating it all depends on who is doing the installing. Some models of televisions might be more difficult than others. Usually, it should be as much or little as twisting a screwdriver, pulling the lamp out, inserting the new one, and turning the set back on. This is definitely something to ask about before buying your television.

Your TV most likely has a problem in the convergence circuits. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

Sounds like the light engine. They are having major problems with it, but Hitachi is replacing the part for free, with you paying for the installation. Need to call Hitachi customer relations.

No power on Hitachi 50UX588

Most likely have a regulator problem. Remove rear cover, look down on the main chassis, turn tv on watch the board to have some colored led's lit, usually a red one and couple of green. If the red is out, its your regulator, if a green one other problems off the circuit with green led are causing the tv not to power up.
