Hi there
Putting the keys back in place can be a tough job especially if the cradles have snapped, your probably better off replacing the whole keyboard as it will be cheaper for you.
As it happens HP laptop keyboards are really easy to remove, if you look under the laptop you will find 2 screws clearly marked with keyboard symbols next to them, unscrew them and turn the laptop right way up and open the lid. At the top of the keyboard look closely for 4 small plastic slide locks, just slide them back and you can proceed to remove the keyboard, be very carefull at this point because there is a delicate ribbon cable which you have to remove from the motherboard.
Once removed your good to go!!!! just follow the instuctions in reverse to put it back together.
Kind regards and Merry Christmas

Yes you can replace the keyboard. A few screws on the laptop, and you'll be good to go.

My Dell XPS L502 laptop keyboard locks up?

Instructions

1

Buy a can of compressed air and spray it on the keyboard if your keys are sticking together. This is the easiest thing you can do to fix the keys on your keyboard. It doesn't work for all problems, but it's a good place to start. Make sure you get the air down inside the keys to clean out any debris, hair or food that may have gotten caught in there.
2

Replace the inside of the keyboard with a new piece. One of the major problems with Dell keyboards is that the plastic pieces holding the keys in place become loose or broken. You can find a cheap keyboard from Wal-Mart or an electronics store. Simply take apart the new keyboard, pull the keys off your keyboard, lay the plastic piece on top and replace your keys.

3Use a small dab of super glue to replace keys that have fallen off. Dell laptops often have keys that fall off, especially as the computer ages or is used quite frequently. Place a small dab of glue directly on the round part that holds the key in place and lightly press the key down. When the glue dries, you'll be able to use your laptop again.
4

Remove any problem keys from your keyboard and look at the plastic retainers. At times these retainers can become broken, damaged or simply fall off. Carefully pull off the retainer, clean it off with some compressed air and snap it back into place. Then put the key back into the slot and everything should work fine.
5

Consult the Dell manuals website to get information on your specific laptop computer. The manual will include information on troubleshooting and repairing any problems with your laptop. If you find that none of their suggestions work, you can also use the website to find the customer service number. You'll need to call the number and ask for help or advice.

    Toddler pulled keys off keyboard

    Hi,

Yes, most of the keys will pop back on with a little pressure. Make sure you have them facing the correct way. If it doesn't pop on, then their might be a plastic connector that needs to be lined up. Those are a pain, but with careful attention to it, you'll see that a couple of numbs (for better words) stick out and need to be put into the wholes on the keypay. At the same time they need to be connected to the key. It doesn't leave you much room to play with, but with a little practice you'll get the hang of it, and practice is exactly what you'll get.

    Good Luck.

    1. this could be due to a loose flex cable to the keyboard and the motherboard.
    2. It could be due to a malfunctioning keyboard assembly
    Usually it is the latter.

My letter A button is broken

Pull it off and use air duster to blow dust out and put the button back on the keyboard. If its still broken, you need to buy a new keyboard.

Alternatively you can remap the "a" key to another key you do not use. See here: http://vlaurie.com/computers2/Articles/remap-keyboard.htm for how to do that manually.

Otherwise there are many apps that can do this.

Here are 2 free ones I recommend:

    http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/
http://www.autohotkey.com/ <- I like his program alot but it does more than key mapping. Its a full macro and hotkey application. Possibly more than you need.
