remove Huge battery first.
run on AC power pack only , even forever.
see it does run
hold power button for 10seconds and release.
it does not need that battery to run ever. and is shorted and also like that is fire hazard. get the heck out of here and out of home ,
be safe. never keep these old batteries in any home.
If it is not taking a charge your power adapter is loose. To confirm this press on the cord where it plugs into your laptop and continuously press the power button if it powers up thats your problem. You may need to press the cord at various angles before you get it to power up push it in and pull to the left, then the right, up, down and so forth.
If this is your issue you can temparly fix it by using duct tape once you find the right position for the cord that will work for awhile but you will need to get it soldered eventually. If you know someone who knows how to solder ask them if they will do it for if not the repair will be approx. $100
Are the cooling fans running? If so, get a can of air from an electronic store, and blow the cooling system out from the exhaust in to the fan. Stop the fan from turning with a paperclip or something.
