Protect mode shuts down the receiver

We have hooked up the htz510 system and when we turn the receiver on, the turn table (on the changer) makes noise & then it says "welcome to the samsung......" then goes into "protect" and shuts down. Any help??

If this happens only when connecting the receiver, chech the receiver cable. If the cable is fine, receiver connector at the back of receiver is faulty.

Protect mode will kick in whenever a fault is detected.

You get the unit not powering up, and sometimes you hear a clicking noise, that is the protection switch that keeps shutting down the unit.

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the product documentation.

Regards.

Tuner Keeps Turning Off when a Loud Noise is Played

It's a receiver, not a tuner.

Clearly something is overloading it or forcing it into self protection.

What else is drawing power from the same souce as the receiver, or from its convenience outlet. There IS a limit to how much current it will support.

Try checking the speaker connections and their impedance to make sure it's not unacceptably low.

We have a samsung plasma 650 and a samsung htz510 We are not getting any sound thru surround system while in tv mode

Have you turned the TV speakers off within your Audio setup and turned on you external speakers? Your 510 then becomes your speakers. Also eliminates potential for audio synch issues. This done mean you have to turn both the TV and Audio system on everytime you want to "TV" programs. Good luck.
