Do one thing ...
start the system and make sure you are fast
when the system starts up click on the start > run > type > services.msc
in the list find the remote procedure call ( RPC ) and double click on it > click on the tab that says recovery > and than make sure the failures say take no action and than apply and click ok

Why does my "remote procedure call" keep failing whenever I attempt to open my settings on Windows 8.1?

The simplest try you can give is roll back to a previous restore point when the problem was not there and then repeat the procedure.

Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed: make sure your network adapter is properly installed

That's a pretty common error message that the windows vista operating system gives when it can't get the wireless internet connection going and you tell it to trouble shoot or repair. The worst operating system ever created.. Ever noticed that No Corporations, No School Systems and practically no one other the the general public has Vista because they dumped it on you when you purchased a new computer.

OK, my rant is over. To fix this problem you will need to get into the Administrative Services because more times than not some of the services associated with the internet are not starting up automatically as they should.

Click Start/Control Panel/System and Maintenance/Administrative Tools/Services When the window opens up click on scroll down near the bottom and you are looking for WLAN AutoConfig under the first column, you might have to expand the column a little to see it all. Now this service should have a status of STARTED and a startup type of AUTOMATIC. If not, right click on the WLAN AutoConfig and select Properties. Under properties select Startup Type as Automatic in the dropdown box with an arrow, then click Start under the Service Status and the service will begin starting. When it is done, click OK.

Now scroll up and look for service name Remote Procedure Call (RPC) in the service column (1st column). This service needs to be set to start automatic also, so right click on Remote Procedure Call (RPC) select Properties. Under properties select Startup Type as Automatic in the dropdown box with an arrow, then click Start under the Service Status and the service will begin starting. When it is done, click OK.

Now close the Administrative Services and close your internet browser and retry connecting to the internet.

I have started the services of print spooler and the fax in discrepancies.. still not printing. says rpc service not available..

RPC is yet another service that you need to enable so that printing will take place.

Usually, when I encountered this printing error while printing a networked printer, I do the following steps (in Win XP):

  1. Open the Control Panel
  2. Open Administrative Tools => Services
  3. Disable the following services in order: (a) Print Spooler (b) Remote Procedure Call (RPC) (c) Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator and (d) Server.
  4. Minimize all open windows
  5. Refresh the PC/Laptop by pressing F5
  6. Enable the same services in item 3 in the same order
  7. Refresh PC again
  8. Print.
If the same error re-occurs, restart your computer.

I try to load a video driver and i get RPC is unavailible

Hello,

It could be due to this service has been disabled on your computer. To re-enable go to the control panel, click on "administrative tools", now look at the top left of the open window and choose "componet services" , on the left side look for the services tab and open that. Now you will see a long list of windows services running in the background of your computer.....scroll down the list now as is it in alphabetical order and look for the RPC tabs and see if they are "started" if they are not started , right click on the RPC after and then choose enable and select "starts automatic" to have this service start when your computer boots each time . BTW, this is a important service and should always be started. Good luck.
