Ok so if anyone can help... I still don't know which to get the plasma or lcd? I want a 42 inch for an average sized living room, there is not too much light, but a double window on one side of the room, and what brand would you all suggest? Thanks

The area for my new HD tv is a faminly room. The TV will go on a wall next to a sliding glass door, therefore there will be a lot of light. I've heard that LCD is the way to go in this type of room. Did i hear correctly?

many thanks,
ken

In all the ways that really matter, there isn't that much of a difference between the two. Both types of Flat-Panel TVs are thin enough to be placed virtually anywhere, and produce a picture that is startlingly clear, sharp, and bright. The only difference that really matters is the screen size. The majority of LCD TVs have a screen that measures 30" and smaller. TVs with a screen of 32" and larger are typically the domain of the Plasmas.
Technically, LCD and Plasma TVs are entirely different approaches to the same result, because they create images using completely different technologies.

Check the power consumption. LCD TV's, size for size, use about 1/3 the power of Plasma sets. Nowadays you will notice the difference in the electric bill if you watch much TV. And LCD TV's are available in 52" and larger.

Plasma screens have a very shiny reflective screen.

LCD's have a matte finish screen which is better in a brighter room, with less reflection.
