The Motherborad not recognized Hardisk Hitachi SATA 160 GB. andalusia
not recognized by the BIOS, I can not install Windows XP. Supposedly
the VT8237 chipset does not work with SATAII.

    Find This:

The drive is simply NOT RECOGNISED by the VT8237 controller when
plugged into the mobo! BIOS is the most current available, Sept 2004.
It appears VIA know all about this and haven't offered any resolution
save buy a SATAII board or another board with a different controller or
a board with their *fixed* 8237R Plus controller. What compounds the
problem is even with the drive jumpered to force it down to 1.5Gb, as
the Auto Negotiation seems FUBAR in the VT8237, it still isn't
recognised! So it was a wasted afternoon and an exercise in futility!

So just a lesson to those thinking of buying a SATAII 3Gb drive and
thinking it will run on any SATA controller, BEWARE of mobo's with the
VIA VT8237 SATA controller as it appears incompatible with SATAII 3Gb
drives, at least with a Maxtor model 7V300F0 it is!!

Doing more googling, it appears VIA VT8237R, VT6240 and VT6241L SATA
Controllers are suspect too with 3Gb SATA drives, nice to know init!

Is there an IDE drive connected also?

Have you checked your boot order in the BIOS?

SOURCE: PM800-M2 No sound

If you don't have the manual for the PM800-M2 dowload it from the ECS website.

There is a front panel audio header at the back of the motherboard just in front of the onboard sound rear connector.
If the front panel out put isn't being used the front panel audio connector requires 2 jumpers to be on the header in the correct locations.

SOURCE: System won?t recognize SATA drive

No, the size does not matter. When you state the motherboard does not see the SATA drive are you saying the bios does not list the SATA drive? You're 750GB drive is most likely SATA 2.0 / 3.00BG transfer rate.
The P4M800-M7 does support SATA but it does not support SATA 2.0. So what you need to do to get the drive to function at a lower speed. Set to run Ultra 100/133MHz. You'll need help to do this. Try this software for Seagate. It might work for Seagate.

I haven't the time to research Seagates site for simular software.
However you can look through Seagate. Again you want to lower the SATA drive speed to Ultra. The bios will than see the SATA & so will windows.

Good Luck!

I can detect no SATA' HDD

The ECS PM800-M2 only supports SATA 1.0 hard drives. If you are using a newer SATA 3.0 hard drive, there is a jumper on the hard drive which has to be set to SATA 1.0 in order for the VIA 8237R chipset southbridge (which Is on your ECS PM800-M2) to recognize the newer SATA 3.0 hard drives. This Is applicable to all motherboards with the Viatech PM800 / 8237R chipsets. Note: the location for the SATA 1.0 / 3.0 jumper varies on each brand of hard drives. Also check If SATA Is enabled In the BIOS and select IDE mode.

Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro-SLI won't boot and no beep codes

hi kathy,

there are a few things you can try, reseting the cmos, with the jumper usually located near the battery. if you cant find that, try removing the battery for 30 mins and then popping it back in. if no luck from there, you could try another cpu, if that dont work then it may just be the mobo! good luck!

hope it helps!
