You will have to take it to a Dyson repair facility to diagnose the problem.

In one repair I was able to solve this by cleaning the drive shaft assembly but you will most likely have to replace the PCB assembly and/or the cleaner head assembly.

SOURCE: My brush will not activate

    Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC28. Your cleaner is equipped with a safety device which shuts off the brushbar if it gets tangled with a rug fringe, shoelace etc. After making sure the brushbar is free of threads, hair or other obstructions, you'll be able to reset the cleaner and get the brushbar running again. The easiest way to do this is to follow the steps shown in our guide:

    http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1241&product=DC28-ANIMAL

Please note, the brushbar will never rotate when the cleaner is standing in the upright position, or if you've turned it off using the silver brush control switch located next to the red on/off switch.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've tried this and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you, and will be able to recommend the best course of action. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - or if you email your details to askdysonUS@dyson.com, someone will be in contact as soon as possible.

How do I adjust height for carpet brush on DC28 Dyson animal?

Hi Laura, it's Jack at Dyson

DC28's selector pad (located by the red on/off switch) allows you to select the correct height setting for the particular flooring you're cleaning. Patented Dyson Airmuscle technology will then raise or lower the rotating brush bar within the cleaner head to the correct level for optimum performance, or shut it off for cleaning bare floors or delicate rugs.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm glad to hear your Dyson DC28 Airmuscle vacuum has worked so well for you for 5 years, but I'm sorry to hear you're now having difficulty reclining the machine.

It's possible this could occur if an item such as a pen or pencil has been accidentally vacuumed up, and is jamming the changeover valve mechanism. This is easy to check for - after turning off and unplugging the vacuum, lie the machine on its side and open the duct inspection port, then remove any objects or debris:

If you can't find anything, but continue to experience difficulty reclining your vacuum, please get in touch with our experts directly so we can provide further assistance. You can reach us on 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

the machine is warning you that you have the brushbar set too low for the carpet you're trying to clean - try raising it to the level above this. Also te red light is blinking on my dc 28 animal vacuum

Hi Judi, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC28. If the red on/off is flashing, this indicates that something may be jamming the brush bar. To resolve this, please follow the steps shown in the video attached. Make sure there are no obstructions in the cleaner head, and carefully remove any threads or hair from around the brush bar.

You may also want to try raising the brush bar one setting higher using the hight selector pad, as the brush bar will shut itself off if you have it set too low for the carpet pile you're cleaning.

If you'd like some further help after you've given this a try, please email us directly at askdysonUS@dyson.com with your contact details. One of our experts will be in touch as soon as possible to run you through some further troubleshooting.

Once vacuum is turned on and switched to a certain carpet level, the red light begins to flash and the brush stops spinning. How do we fix this?

    Hi there,

The brushbar is designed to stop rotating if you've set it at a level too low for the pile of the carpet you're trying to clean. The indicator light will flash to warn you of this. Using the cleaner with the brushbar raised to the next level on the selector pad should prevent this issue from occurring.

If you have any further concerns about your vacuum, please get in touch with us directly on 1866MYDYSON. One of our experts will be happy to provide the assistance you need.

Brush bar will not engage when you vacuum it will spin when vacuum is off when try to vacuum nothing

    Hi there,

It's important to note the brushbar won't rotate when the cleaner is stood in the upright position, or if the height selector is set for 'Bare floors'.

To check you have the carpet height selector adjusted correctly, please see the user guide supplied with your cleaner. In case you don't have yours to hand, here's an online copy:

I have a brand new Dyson DC28 Airmuscle Vacuumand it is so hard to push and/or pull. Is there a button to make it easier or is it the machine?

    Hi there,

Your DC28 is equipped with Airmuscle™ technology, which allows you to raise or lower the brushbar to suit the flooring you're trying to clean. You should be able to make your DC28 easier to push by changing the setting of the carpet height selector. You can find out how to adjust this in the user guide included with the cleaner. In case you don't have yours to hand, here's an online copy:

    http://media.dyson.com/downloads/US/floorcare/Manuals/dc28_opmanual_usa.pdf

By raising the brushbar, you should be able to reduce the force needed to push and pull the cleaner. If you've tried this, it may simply be the powerful suction which is making it feel a little heavy to use.

If you're still concerned, please get in touch with us free on 1866MYDYSON or email askdysonUS@dyson.com. One of our experts will be happy to answer your questions.

My change floor setting on/off button blinks and it is really hard to push but it doesnt **** up like it use to either.

    Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your Dyson cleaner. From your description, it sounds as if you have a DC28 Animal, rather than a DC17 Animal. If the cleaner seems hard to push, and an indicator light is flashing, you may have the brushbar set to a level too low for the carpet you're trying to clean. Try raising the brushbar to the next height available on the selector pad.
