First to make sure the controller is fine use an external USB keyboard. Open notepad and try all the keys.
now without closing notepad using the internal keyboard and try the keys that so far don't work. Still a problem, turn off laptop.
carefully lift the key cap and see is there is some dust hair or something that is preventing the key to react well.
Last if you can get a live DVD/CD from Linux and try to open a similar notepad program and try the keys. if all work your laptop windows could be infected or corrupted.
This could be a possible hardware issue. You can try to use an external USB keyboard and check if the keys are working or not. If you do not have an external keyboard, you can try to use the onscreen keyboard. To do this, go to start>programs>accessories> accessiblity and then choose on-screen keyboard. Open a notepad and try to use the keys which are not working using the onscreen keyboard. If onscreen keyboard works fine , then you need to get the keyboard replaced.
Please try to use the onscreen keyboard. Go to start>programs>accessories>accessibility > onscreen keyboard. Open a notepad and try to use the tab located on the onscreen keyboard. If the tab is working out there, then you need to get the keyboard replaced. Thanks
You need to check if your keyboard is working fine or not. First of all if you have an external USB keyboard, try to use it. You can also try to use the onscreen keyboard. Go to start>programs> accessories> accessibility and choose on-screen keyboard. Open a notepad and check the keys which are not working. If you are able type those letters, it means that the integrated keyboard needs to be replaced.
Please go to start menu> then programs> accessories> accessibility> onscreen keyboard. Open a notepad and try to type using the onscreen keyboard. If the keys are working using the onscreen keyboard, then you need to get the keyboard replaced. You can contact Dell if your system is under warranty.
make sure there is new batteries in both the mouse and keyboard. Also the wireless receiever that connects to the computer is responding as well.
After you get new batteries put in and also have the receiever plugged in. press the caps lock, num lock keys and see if they light up on the receiver. If they light up then things are working, if they don't then bring up the notepad and see if any of the keys show up in notepad when you type and also see if the cursor on the screen moves for your mouse.
Hopefully both of them will work once you change batteries. If both don't work after changing batteries then you'll need to get a new wireless keyboard/mouse kit.

PUT IT BACK TOGETHER,
GO INGO CONTROL PANEL OPEN DEVICE MANAGER, GO DOWN TO KEYBOARD AND CHECK FOR ANY TYPE OF UPDATES OR AND CHANGES TO THE PROGRAM.

Use the backspace in between a sentance typed on Notepad, if that works - your keyboard and key is functional. Else, you might need a replacement Keyboard. (Click on Start > Run > Notepad > OK - To open notepad)
