Question about Legacy LA2259 Car Audio Amplifier

Open Question

Legacy car amplifier la-2288 worked for a while.

Hi, my car amp did work for a while ( although i was getting engine noise through the speakers) I had only grounded it through the body and not directly to the battery. As I was driving the amp made a sudden noise then I lost all power. It also blew another amp (connected via the same positive and negative wires) and blew the main woofer part of my 6"x9" speakers.
I took it to a shop who changed the mosfets but now they can't see what else could be wrong, Can you help

SOURCE: problem with legacy amp

I would check the RCA preamp wires connecting the stereo to the amp. If these are loose or broken, it could cause you to lose your sound.

Does the amp show signs of life, such as clicking on, an LED turns on, or anything like that?

Has anything else changed between the time it worked and didn't work?

SOURCE: Wiring issues

ok here is how it goes power wire from the battery all the way to amp..then ground wire from amp to a good ground on car then the remote wire which you have to run from the amp to the back of your stereo which in most cases is blue then hook subs from the sub box to the amp

Why the amplifier is getting the sound of the engine att he spekers? while having the car with the engine running, you can clearly hear the engine noise on the speakers

There could be a number of issues

1. Grounding
2. Kinda speaker cables your using

Check your wireing and make sure this is not grounded to where it can be interfered by the engine.

I need to know the size of external fuses for a american legacy amp 2000 watt 2 channel 1990

25 to 30 amp fuses will work great, anything lower could possibly blow a fuse when a good bass note hits even if there is nothing wrong with the amp. Hope this helps.

Orion xtr15 to a american leagacy la 660 amp

your only choice is to run the amplifier at a 4 ohm mono load - this will not reult in the amplifier making much power.
Positive on sub to Positive on amp.
Negative on sub to Negative on amp.
This is your only possibility.

Adding a second sub in the same fashion will result in a 2 ohm load, and your amplifier will run at its rated potential.

Engine noise from Legacy 4000W 2 channel amp

Hi Justin,
Send me the specs. on the speaker ( voice coil impedance), amp, power wire size, and box
As for engine noise ( alternator whine) 99.9 times out of a hundred it's caused by what's called a ground loop, That will take a little trouble shooting on your part. It's no big deal. It will be a step by step process. All you need is two alligator clips or a old RCA cable.and a couple feet of wire. I'll try to get to it this evening,
Oh, and you will have to pull the head unit out of the dash... P

Half my amp works

Im sorry to tell you, that if only one side is working, you most likly have an open driver transistor or input device. If the one side had a shorted output then the whole unit would go into shutdown. The fact that the unit still works is a good sign. The correct way to test an amp is with some equipment most folks do not have, and that means a trip to your local good audio repair facility. They will need to doi a bench check on the amp with load resistors and a tone generator. If the amp preforms good on the bench, then you should start looking for bad speakers and or pinched wiring, loose connections or bad speakers. Let us know what happens? Good Luck
