The a/c on my 2003 honda accord will all of a sudden stop blowing cold air. I already had the filter changed thinking that was the problem. The mechanic is having a hard time figuring out what is wrong...

have you tried refilling the aircon gas ?

It goes empty after a while.

The reason for cold then not cold is because it is a system that works in reverse of your radiator.

The gas cycle through the system. goes through the radiator of the the aircon system (not the same as the one for the engine). there is extracts the heat out of the air. the air is now cold and pushed into the car.

the warm aircon gas the made cold further along the system but the dont have enough in the system.

imagine athletic ruynning around a track. all 20 are bunched up together. there is w spot light in the centre of the infield shining on you.

the track is your aircon system.
the spot light the air coming into your car.
You are the car
The athletes are the aircon gas.

When they run between you and the light the air is cooled off and you are getting cold air.
now of goes the air (athletes) around the system and till they come along again you get hot air.

Now fill up the aircon system (put more runner on the track and voila, less light reached you cos there is more gas in the system.

However if you refill it and after a day or even just a week it the same again you have a leak in your system and will need to have it looked at by someone specializing in car aircon repairs.

My mazda 323f has a problem with the aircon, it works for 1/2 hour then pumps out normal temperature air. If I stop the engine for say 15 mins then restart the engine, the aircon works for a short time. I...

When you a/c works does it cut off on reaching the temp. If so decrease the rheostat and check. The compresor is developing a high back pressure and getting caught . This reduces the pressure and flow to reduce the cooling. You will need to confiirm if the compressor is having a bad valve, a filter, fault in the gas or gas pressure, block in the condenser. Try to reduce your fan speed and reduce the thermostat and check if the a/c cuts off. If the cooling gets better ,use it till your next overhaul, the check the entire a/ system for blocks in cooling pipe/condenser and refill correct gas. Hope the fan is working well when the a/c is switched on with no blocks in the condenser fins. Use a good spray to clean the fins too. Hope you try this out and hope it helps. Good day

I have a Mazda mx6 and the aircon won''t work.

what won't work? the interior fan or is all else well except the cooling part? if the compressor does not come on, then perhaps you need to refill gas. in the very front of the car under the hood, you remove the plastic covers where the hood opener is, and you will see some pipes & a canister. on top of this canister there is a clear small round site glass, you can check there for gas if you have dye, or you can unscrew the cap over the refill nipples and depress with you finger nail, air (gas) should blow out under good pressure, not a little only. there is also a fuse you can check situated in the same place, this is for the compressor

A/C not blowing cold air

Check the aircon gas is filled up, this is something that needs to be filled up once every 2-3years especially if used often. There should be a metal pipe running to the aircon radiator tank with a small glass window somewhere. This should be green from the gas inside, if it isn't it's empty. Take it to a workshop, it shouldn't be more than a few dollars for a refill. Hope that helps!

Air Conditioning - blows warm

Hi

If the fuses are all ok and you can hear the aircon clutch clicking when you attempt to switch it on, then I think it may be time for a re-gas! You could do it yourself with a can of gas from an autofactors, but you wouldn't get the pressure right, and, there would still be old gas in there.

If you took it to a garage, however, they would **** out all the old gas, and then hold the vacuum in there for a while to check for any leaks. Then they would refill to the exact pressure with fresh new gas.

Regards

Geordie
