First of all, please clarify if you are using iTunes or not to administrate the songs on your iPod Nano and if you have installed iTunes on your computer. You can both download (purchase) songs in iTunes (iTunes Music Store) and transfer them betweem your computer and your iPod. All done in iTunes.
iTunes will normally automatically make sure that your iPod has the newest necessary software installed. Is this what you are having trouble with?
If you need help to find free songs to download to your iPod, I'm afraid this forum is not the right place to ask.

iDevices (iPod, iPhone, etc) usually can only be managed through iTunes. So the first thing you should do is install iTunes (you can download it off Apple's website).
After installing iTunes and connecting your iPod, you must open My Computer then double click your iPod's icon. Then, click on Tools, Options, and in the View tab check the "Show hidden files and folders" option. You should then see an "iPod_Control" folder. Inside it there'll be a "Music" folder, with all your songs. Just drag them back to your computer.
But remember: you can only manage your iPod's music through iTunes. If you add or change songs on your iPod without using iTunes, these songs won't be recognized.
Hi there and welcome at Fixya, the support team (lfete)
I mean your iPod you can just insert it in the computer with the cable and the computer will install the driver :O) then you can see the storage in the Folder "My Computer". Open the drive and simply copy and paste the songs you want to have on it, you find the copy and paste function if you highlight a song and then right click on the mouse. Remember this !! you can copy more songs in once by holding the control (Ctrl) button down when selecting the songs with the mouse OR you can copy several songs after eachother by highlight the first song and then press "Shift" and highlight the last song.
make sure on itunes it says sync all selected songs(make sure all songs you want to download are selected)then try to sync it again if thats not your problem it could be a bad i pod
Then click on itunes 7 and download it. Once you download and install itunes, you are able to transfer all your songs from your computer onto the ipod. Or you can go to the ipod music store to purchase songs.
regarding videos: you'll probably have to convert them in order for them to fit onto your ipod. You can easily just google 'ipod video converter' and download one from there.
You can download iTunes (iPod should have come with disc). Then you can purchase songs on itunes store and transfer them directly to your ipod. Or, if you have other MP3's, click on ADD FOLDER TO LIBRARY in itunes, find the folder where your songs are, then click on it. The songs should be in your library. Then just drag them onto your ipod.
