Notebook adapter connection issue

I have a dual band router and a dual band notebook adapter.

I was able to connect in both bands on my IBM notebook, worked great.

Now, I am trying to connect the same notebook adapter to a new Dell notebook and the connection doesn't work at all. I tried both bands. I am able to connect when I take out the notebook adapter using the default wireless connection. So, the internet is fine. Checked firewall is off. All I did on the new laptop was went and got the driver online installed it... via the default conn of course.

I am not sure what is going on... any ideas? Thanks for any help.

SOURCE: Replaced Linksys Wireless-B 2.4GHz 807.11b

Try resetting your IP address:
The laptop may be trying to use the IP address from the old router.

1) Click Start (assuming Windows 2000, XP, or Vista)
2) Click Run
3) Type in CMD
This will take you to a black command box
4) Type in: ipconfig/release
The chart should show your IP address as 0.0.0.0
Once this has happened, proceed to step 5
5) Type in: ipconfig/renew
You should now see a new IP address listed.

Also note that you need to set up your network key (assuming that you are using one) on both the router and laptop.
Make sure that your router is set up to perform as DHCP server.

SOURCE: I have an old laptop

Most of the newer routers use a newer type of encryption (WPA or WPA2) which is not supported by older 802.11b hardware.

Either set the Linksys router to use WEP encryption, or get a newer 802.11g card for the old laptop which can use WPA or WPA2 encryption.

Older versions of Windows XP also need to be upgraded to Service Pack 3 or apply this patch:

Well, this seems to be an issue specific to the desktop computer. Please disable the firewall on the concerned computer and then check if that resolves the issue.

I have defined 2 networks, one for the G and the other for the N channel, only the one for the G gets connected

You have WRT610N dual band router . it works on both 2.4 GHz and 5 Ghx bands at the same time.
Both the bands are N bands.
2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band are capable of working on N signals.
Now on your computer you are able to see only the 2.4 GHz signals but not the 5 GHz signals.
To see the wireless signal on the computer , your computer should have 5 GHz compatible wireless adapter.
If you have 2.4 GHZ adapter on your computer then you won't be able to connect to the 5 Ghz signal.
Open the Device manager and under network adapters you will see the wireless adapter. Check if it is dual band wireless adapter.

Netgear dualband wndr3300 - Why can I only connect to one band

Dual band means it is working on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequency. If your computer can connect on both frequency that only means that the wireless adapter in your computer is also dual band.
