Question about ViewSonic VX910 19" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Monitor Blinks when PC powers up, wont let me turn it off

Just started doing this: When the PC is turned on after being off for more than a reboot the VP930b begins blinking about every 5 seconds.

I get about a 1/4 second to see the desktop image that I should see all the time. So i think windows is running ok.

I THINK my video card is ok. Its a geforce and the program Smart Doctor says its ok.

I changed the digital cable and tried both Dsub ports and it did the same thing. I have unplugged all power cords and video cables on all ends and replaced them. no change

The wierder part is that when it is blinking, it will NOT allow me to shut if off via the power button on the monitor. The only way is to unplug it.

While it is blinking, the green power light blinks to amber and back to green continually and the on off button does not function.

At first it would do this for about a minute and of course i was wiggling cords to see and it came back on. Now it doesnt matter what I do.

So i just rebooted and it came on like nothing is wrong. The entire computer is new except for the monitor.

My brother does mess with it continually adding HD and whatever else, do you think something could have been messed up during one of his tamperintgs?

Id leave it on if it didnt run up the power bill $200.00

SO...... is it going bad?

or

Is it an easy fix that costs less than a new/used one? I really like it and would like to keep it if its not shot. im used to the old dinosaurs that take up half the table and give you half the view. :(

I unplugged my computer and turned off the monitor to save power since we were not using. Now with the computer plugged in, when I turn monitor on the green light just blinks.

Make sure the data plug is in correctly. Turn the computer on. No you can try using the power button on the monitor to power it off and on. Or you may need to pull the power for the monitor out of the plug and then put it back in.

The blinking light means the monitor is in sleep mode. They need activity on the data or signal cable before they wake up. Unfortunately sometimes they get stuck and you have to reboot them to wake them up. I have seen a few where they had failed and would not come out of sleep mode but that is pretty rare. Usually you just have to sweet talk it and threaten it a bit and pull it plug a few times and all of a sudden it will start up,

My monitor does not turn on and the power button light keeps blinking ... <my Gateway monitor light blinks blue slowly but the screen is blank

This is usually a sign that there is no signal going to your monitor, check all your cables and then reboot.

MY SAMSUNG SYNCMASTER MONITOR SCREEN DOES NOT COME ON WHEN I TRY TURNING IT ON. HOWEVER THE POWER BUTTON BLINKS GREEN. ANY ADVICE? THANKS SAMSUNG SYNCMASTER Monitor (black) 739S O seen at the back

The cable connecting to the PC might be loose, or the part entering the monitor could be.

Try turning the monitor on, and after a few seconds, turn on the computer. You should be able to see the BIOS POST screen text flashing by. If you can't, there is something wrong in your hardware settings.

If you can, however, that's the OS resolution set too high: the monitor shuts down to protect itself. Boot in safe mode by pressing the F8 key immediately after powering up, then lower the video resolution in Control Panel display settings to something safe - 1024 x 768 usually does the trick. At that point you can reboot in normal mode and raise the resolution again to the maximum supported by the monitor (check the manual for that).

How do i get the monitor out of sleep mode? It was suggested I hit the ESC button on the keyboard but this hasn't worked. The only way to resolve it so far, is to turn everything off at the wall and start...

In windows click Start, Control panel, Power Options. On the first page "When computer is plugged in: Turn off monitor: Never. On the Hibernate tab the box for Enable Hiberation should be unchecked.

Please rate this fixya.

Power button blinks - won't turn on

When the power light blinks, it indicates in PC mode that there's no PC signal (depending on the monitor, it could be the sync signals or a combination of sync and video.)

You SHOULD be able to hit the source button to see if the monitor then comes up to allow you to watch another source like the S-Video, Video or TV (ok, so good luck picking up any signals if you're in the US -- but you SHOULD see static and this is probably the best "quick test" for now).

If you see static... your monitor works for most part.

Where you would troubleshoot now is the cable for your PC and the connector to the monitor on both the PC and and the monitor end. These can come loose, get abused and cause solder breaks on the circuitboards within (less common but possible).

Most cable issues I see are just bad cables from extremely tight spaces bending the cable and causing wiring breaks in the connector housings. (unrepairable because of the molded cable end)

Try those out and let me know.

I CANT GET MY MONITOR TO TURN ON

It could be the Monitor, the VGA adapter, or the PC itself. If you power on the monitor without anything connected to it, do you ever see anything on the display?

If not, it is probably the Monitor. If yes, it is likely the vga adapter and/or PC.
