-   I bought the TV 5 years ago and two months after I purchased it I had problems with it where they replaced the board and some of the lamps, a few months back I ran into the same problem and after they fixed it again, of course I only was reimbursed $94, I noticed that I had another problem with a faint blue line in a curved arch like pattern. I have spoken to Sony and am waiting for resolution.-   Guest

Guys I did this myself real easy. Just don't turn the corresponding screw too far. Only need to adjust it until the lines go away. Do it on a darker screen so the lines are more visible. I did the red 2 years ago and the green 6months before that. The blue lines are coming on my screen now and I've fixed it in 10 minutes. The TV is amazing.

I got a similar problem with red lines on my Sony. I want to try this solution. Does anyone know how to take the front cover off in order to get to the CRTs?
Thanks

To access the focus block with the screen controls, remove the 2 plugs under the speaker grille. There is a philips head screw under each plug. Remove both screws. the speaker grill is now free. Pull the bottom forward and the grille will come off. The top is just held by tabs behind the screen bezel. Be careful as there is wiring to the grille for video input 2 and the front panel controls. There is a piece of fiberboard held on by 4 screws in the center which was formerly covered by the grille. Remove the screws and the panel and the focus block is right there. Each color is labeled for both screen level and focus. Adjust the screen control of the color producing the lines until the lines just disappear.

OMG! Thank you so much!

I finally managed to fix the curved red lines on my Sony.
I took the front of the TV off, removed the plywood cover, and turned down the power adjustment on the red (lower right hand knob). voula! no red lines!

I had the same probelm, the Sony tech huy adjusted the red Screen Voltage on the screen/focus block in the front of the tv.
Just aslight turn of the screw and now it's all better... I paid $50.

He said that occasionally it needs to be done, and that that eventually I'll have to do blue and green as well.

Hope this helps, Good Luck

I had the faint red and blue lines and a blue tint to the screen. Did the screen voltage adjustment for blue and red guns, worked like a charm. Took about 10 minutes and didnt cost me a penny!

Thanks a lot!

I had the problem, I fixed as described above but it lasted less then a month and then the red and blue tube started at it again, with large lines on the screen. The power/standby would blink for 5 times again and again.

I called service magic from an ad I found on this site and they sent a guy to fix it. He seemed familiar with the problem. He tapped the tubes, both the red and blue and each time he tapped, the screen would bleep. He said by tapping the tubes it cleared up some loose material in the tube and that this normally fixed the problem, but not for sure, sometimes it works, sometimes it not.

now $134 later the picture is looking great

Hope this helps

I have had the same problem, the CRTs are failing and will need to be replaced in 6-8 weeks. The CRT's are no longer in production and have to be located after market or rebuilt. Wrote SONY Electronics President regarding the quality on this model but received no reply. This was the last model of the rear projection type television they produced prior to DLP. Mine had aways been a lemon, great picture, too many shop calls. Get an extended warranty if possible. I'll replace mine with a LCD this year, not a SONY because of the expierence with this and Pres. non-reply.

I have the same problem with the red arching lines. I have a 4 year old Sony KP-46WT500. Does anyone know where I can find the adjustment screws on this model TV?

We have the same model Sony and have had lines on it for about a year or so. I thought maybe it was the connection. I am glad I finally looked it up on the internet and my husband and I fixed it in 10 minutes. Our line were mainly blue and red and in a curved fashion. My husband didn't even have to do an 1/8th of a turn to fix it. Just touching the screwdriver to the red, and blue knobs fixed it up. Wish We would have done it sooner.. hopefully it lasts!!!

Thanks!!
