Yes, those deleted pictures can be retrieved as long as you take the right steps.
First things first - stop taking more photos (or videos) using the same camera (flash card) in case you may quite possibly ruin the chances of recovery.
Then connect the camera (memory card) to your computer which has installed a data recovery software. Check this site Digital Camera Recovery for several tested and nice programs working under Both Windows and Mac OS X.
Hope it helps, best regards!

Deleting won't make the pictures on a memory card erase
permanently. Those deleted pictures are still stored on the memory card
of your camera, they're just invisible or inaccessible. You can recover
them with photo recovery software. But once the deleted pictures were
overwritten by new data, they are gone for good.
I used a program called Tenorshare Photo Recovery for Mac and it worked.Anyway, you can download it and scan your memory card for free to preview whether your files can be recovered.By the way,it will show you the file name, type, date and size of your files and thumbnails for your pictures that it found on your card.Give it a shot!
Here is a step by step tutorial to guide you recover deleted photos from memory card.

Ok! Don't worry! Nowadays, the deleted
files on a camera memory card are not actually destroyed immediately after the
deletion process. They are still there and become invisible. So, act carefully
to get these deleted photos back:
1. Stop using this camera right now in case that any new file on it may overwrite your deleted files.
2. Insert this camera to your computer.
3. Download a camera memory card data recovery freeware to retrieve all your lost photos back.
This professional camera recovery freeware has helped many people around me restore their inaccessible data off from a phone/camera memory card or hard drive. It could be a good choice for you to go on.
Try to read more detailed information of this camera data recovery freeware here:
4. Do not save or back up all the restored data on the same camera in case of any data loss.
