71 years old, would like a step by step procedure to transfer the content of my computer to the hard drive, than i would like to remove & reinstall window xp. This would greatly be appreciated. Thank...

Hi

Transferring file from your computer to external hard drive is very easy, just copy and paste all the files you needed to the external hard drive.

Reinstalling Windows XP would be quite difficult. Make sure you have Windows XP installer CD and all the utility hardware driver of your computer e.g. Chipset driver, Sound driver, VGA driver, WAN driver, LAN driver and others. If you do not have the Utility drivers, just download the complete set of utility driver in the internet. Most of them are free to downloads.

Here is the procedure with video on how to reinstall the Windows XP operating system (step by step) http://www.fixya.com/support/r7410371-reinstall_windows_xp_or_installing_clean

Windows XP wont install USB card readers

Did not reinstall the needed drivers. Download drivers from manufacturer support and install them.

Maybe just maybe you can use device manager to install the drivers by searching the web for them. Only take a minute to make the attempt.

Ethernet not working after format and xp reinstall

Right-click the My Computer icon and select Manage, then go to the Device Manager in the list on the left and find the Network Adapter from the list on the right, right-click Network Adapter and select Uninstall. When you reboot, XP should find the Adapter and reinstall it automatically. Another reboot may be required.

If it still will not connect, go to the NIC Manufacturer's website and download the driver to removable media. The Driver Update option can be accessed in the Device Manager, but this time select Properties when you right-click the Network Adapter, and go to the Driver tab.

HP HP Pavilion a6440a Desktop

Try this:
  1. Download Belarc Advisor (free) from their website (http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html)
  2. Run it on your Pavilion
  3. Note the device names for which you need drivers for (such as the video card may say 'NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS' - that's the card in my laptop)
  4. Search for the Windows XP driver on the device manufacturer's website (example, for NVIDIA drivers go to nvidia.com)
  5. If you cannot find the drivers on the manfacturer's website, try driverguide.com. Register for free to find the drivers you need.
Good luck and I hope this helped. : )

You will find the drivers you need (except for the modem driver) for xp here: http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/bizsupport/questionanswer.do?threadId=1226016

There is also a modem driver but I have not looked for it hard enough cause I don't use the modem anymore. I connect to the internet via DSL, however some people still use the modem to connect to the internet or to send and receive faxes on their PC's. Hope this helps.
